I reckon six points will do it and looking at the fixture list – Arsenal, Stoke, Blackburn, Sunderland Fulham, Portsmouth - we should do that comfortably.

A few weeks ago on Talk Of The Terrace I said: “It’ll go down to the wire like it always does.” Now I think we might make it safe with a game or two to spare. I’ll be absolutely delighted to have been wrong.

The only thing troubling me after four games unbeaten – including the valiant 0-0 draw with Everton – is that we don’t get enough credit for the way we play.

Sure we had to dig in against Everton at times and Paul Scholes accused us of playing anti-football against United but needs must in those games.

We tore Burnley and West Ham apart by playing fast, attacking football. We were the better team against Villa too. I’m just a bit tired of hearing how poor West Ham were at Upton Park. What about how well the team in the old gold played and how about some praise for three fabulous goals?

If we stay up, and it is still an ‘if’, I want Mick and the lads to get the credit they deserve. We’re not going to survive because of luck or because of other teams’ ineptitude. We’re going to survive because we have out fought, out thought and out played enough of the other teams in the division.
