So, two games into the new season, two draws having played two of the newly promoted teams. It could have been a lot worse - remember Blackpool at the start of last season?
Obviously I think we're going to need to get better but it's a fairly solid start considering we've just sold who was in my opinion, our best player from last season. In fact, lets be honest, we should have won the game at Swansea were it not for a great penalty save by Michael Vorm.
I'm sure a lot of fans will be moaning that we 'only' managed to get a draw at Swansea, but that's the sort of result that if achieved in February people would be praising us for a 'hard fought point' - just because we've done this in August doesn't mean it's some kind of disaster. I hope people are realistic.
So, where do you think we need to strengthen ? For me, it has to be up front. We just don't seem to have a cut and thrust at the moment and creativity seems to be severely lacking. I know N'Zogbia doesn't always have his fans but at least he had a bit of a spark about him - an ability to create something out of nothing.
A winger and a goal poacher would be fantastic additions to our squad. Sadly, I'm not too sure if that's going to happen before next Thursday. I just don't think the money is there at the moment for us to add to the team. That's not to say I think we are going to leave it as late as last season to stay in this league. I think we'll be mid table this season. Maybe even a bit of a cup run ? We've done it before, so why not now ?
For a positive bit of news this week, Ben Watson, Emmerson Boyce and James McCarthy have all signed new contracts to extend their stay at the DW stadium. All players that seem to have a good future ahead of them.
We'll play our third promoted club this weekend with QPR visiting the DW (Surely that hasn't happened for ages - playing three promoted teams in the first three weeks of the season ?) I'm sure they'll fancy their chances against us but Bolton showed that they have weaknesses that can be exploited. First win of the season ? I'm saying yes !
