So, back in the relegation zone after a mere seven days out of it. In the end it was a comfortable win for Sunderland after a blitz of a comeback.
I guess Sunderland are a team that was always going to pick up points from somewhere after their disappointing slump in the second half of this season. It just happened to be against us on yet another day when we just didn't get the rub of the green.
We're like Arsenal in that we seem to be such a naive team sometimes. We just seem to be incapable of closing out games. Sunderland must have feared the worse when Diame's superb strike gave us the lead after half time. We just couldn't finish them off though and it's really disappointing because I think the three points were there for the taking after we went ahead against a team who seemed devoid of any confidence.
I'm still optimistic we can escape the drop though. West Ham's promising form of February and March seems to have deserted them to such an extent that even Fernando Torres is capable of scoring against them. Blackburn seem to be sinking like a stone and Wolves and Blackpool are two teams really struggling for points at the moment.
Our next challenge is at home to Everton. Probably the most difficult of our remaining fixtures. I thought United were lucky in a lot of respects against Everton on Saturday and it's going to be a tricky game. I'm really looking forward to May 15th though - when we face West Ham. How much of a relegation six-pointer is that going to be ? Hope I still have nails to chew by then !

If the Latics cannot defeat West Ham, they do not deserve to remain in the Premiership. The other teams threatened with relegation are not conceding so a win verses West Ham is mandatory and at least a draw against Stoke would help. It's going to be an interesting last two weeks! The drama at the lower end of the table is always more interesting as teams fight for survival. Let's hope Wigan has not used up all its luck!
Paul, thanks for being Wigan's correspondent. It's a thankless job but much appreciated.
