I guess not many of us were expecting too much from the Chelsea game, but like anything hard to take, it's still not nice to see the final conclusion take it's inevitable shape. So the facts are these - bottom of the league, two points from safety and six game left to play. It isn't over yet....
I think Martinez was spot on when interviewed after the Chelsea game. He described it as a magnificent performance by Wigan and that ultimately, we were just missing that smidgen of luck.
I think he's right on both counts. The Chelsea performance was the continuation of some decent displays which we've shown in the games against Birmingham and Spurs. If we can carry this on in the last few remaining games, then I have no doubt that we'll stay up.
We have to take a huge positive from the fact that four out of our last six games are against teams that are involved in the relegation battle. (The other two games are against Everton and Stoke - which have to be seen as not beyond the realms of possibility of picking up a few points).
So, the final run in starts next Saturday with the game against Blackpool which is quite obviously a massive game now. Blackpool are currently in 17th place and a mere two points ahead of us. It's a relegation six-pointer if there ever was one.
