It's not looking too good at the moment is it ? Rock bottom in the table and four points from safety with only a few games remaining. It really is squeaky bum time right now. How the hell are we going to stay up ?
In order for us to be in the Premier League next year, I think we are going to need to get at least something out of the following fixtures: Birmingham, Blackpool, Everton, Aston Villa, West Ham and Stoke.
Even that may not be enough but maybe if we pick up some good results against Spurs and Chelsea in early April we may not even require points in all of the games I listed above. We took all three points at the Lane against Spurs earlier in the season so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.
I hope you all agree, the games I listed above are all winnable. Birmingham have looked very iffy ever since their Carling Cup win, hopefully we can take advantage of their hangover next Saturday. Blackpool have been leaking goals and have the most porous defence in the league, while Everton, Villa and West Ham although going through the odd patch of decent form now and again still always only ever seem to be one game away from trouble. Wigan's last game of the season is against Stoke who could by then, be contemplating a visit to Wembley for the F.A Cup final. Maybe their minds will be on other things when they come to finally play us. Who knows, our survival could just go down to something like that ?
It's certainly going to be a very nerve-wracking time until May. I just hope it won't ultimately end in heartbreak. Our game against City last Saturday proved that we do have a lot of spirit. It was desperately unlucky for Al Habsi that his mistake led to City grabbing all three points. I feel he's been one of our best players this season. Hopefully we can bounce back, starting with Birmingham on Saturday.
