After Tuesday's game at the Emirates it was confirmed that Victor Moses has dislocated his shoulder and is now facing a three month. For a Wigan side struggling for goals this is a major blow.
Moses was one of the few players on our team to have scored more than once and with our other strikers such as Boselli and Di Santo really struggling to gel it’s hard to see where goals are going to come from if Nzogbia isn’t in the mood.
Our lack of firepower was exceptionally prominent at the bitterly disappointing loss to West Ham on Saturday. There were times when we were applying pressure, but just couldn’t seem to find a way to make it count, and this was against a team who have one of the most dire defences in the top flight
.
Victor Moses was just beginning to get a run in the first team and his injury has come at such bad timing. I genuinely think that after a few games he’d begin to find the back of the net. His hard working performances showed that he was up for the fight that we undoubtedly find ourselves in.
Back to the here and now, I’m really not sure where we go after Moses’ injury. Do we go out in the transfer window and buy another striker ? Do we even have funds available for us to do this ? It seems clear to me that we can’t rely on Boselli for much longer. It’s just not happening at the moment for our expensive Argentinian signing. Boselli reminds me a little of Johan Elmander at Bolton. I do genuinely think he’ll come good eventually but I have no idea how long that’s going to take or even if we can afford to wait that long. Elmander had two dire seasons at Bolton but now looks absolutely class. It shows just what can happen if you can afford a player some patience, but I don't know if our current situation allows us this virtue.
