Wigan Athletic

A disappointing 2-0 loss to Fulham brought our seven game unbeaten run shuddering to a halt in West London. I think I can just about take a loss to draw specialists Fulham, especially at Craven Cottage where they seem strong, however, it was the manner of the defeat that got to me. Wigan just looked like they didn't want to be there.

Unfortunately for us fans, Wigan were actually supposed to be playing at Craven Cottage and we succumbed to a defeat in a game in which we never really gave ourselves credit.

Man for man, Fulham were better in every position. In particular, we looked completely over-run in midfield and Rodallega looked completely isolated on his own up front again.

Youngsters Di Santo and Cleverley who had looked impressive in recent weeks looked well out of their depth as Fulham didn't really break a sweat in easing past us.

I still think that some players should be getting more of a chance. Moses and Boselli are two names which spring to mind. Two names in which a lot of fuss was made when we brought these players to the club. Now they don't seem to get much of a look in. In Boselli's case, we splashed the cash to the tune of £6 million to bring him to our club. Not a figure to be sneezed at for Wigan. Admittedly he hasn't exactly looked great in the games in which he has actually played, but by not playing him, is Martinez basically saying that he has wasted our cash on a flop ? Personally I think he needs more games.

I really do think that if we had a decent striker we'd be dangerous. When you look at the promoted teams that are doing so well this season, Newcastle have Carroll, Blackpool have Varney and West Brom have Odemwingie. All three seem to be banging in the goals and look lively up front. We have nothing like that and our flat performance against Fulham showed what we're missing. The scary thing is, it doesn't look like a situation that's going to improve anytime soon.

So, now we have two tricky games to come. Away to Blackburn and home to Liverpool. Two games though that aren't impossible by any stretch of the imagination. Is six points really too much to ask ? All will be revealed very soon.
