A big welcome back to the schizophrenic form of last season. After shipping ten goals against Blackpool and Chelsea it feels a welcome relief to get some points on the board after Saturday's visit to White Hart Lane. Just think, this time last year we had come away from Spurs completely demoralised after losing 9-1. So, did we just get lucky, or is there a brave new Wigan team emerging ?....
Holding onto the 1-0 win on Saturday proved to be a tense affair but I don't think that anyone could say that it wasn't a fair result. Spurs looked strangely lacklustre. Maybe their midweek Champions League adventure had proved too much or maybe they'd simply underestimated us. Whatever it was, they looked a shadow of the team that had beaten us so convincingly at the lane last season.

One of the major plus points to come out of Saturday's win was the performance of Al Habsi in goal. He was quite simply unstoppable and proved to be the steady pair of hands that Wigan have been crying out for so far this season. Kirkland has looked particularly shakey in the previous two games so Al Habsi's introduction was most welcome.
While we're talking about good performances, I feel Ronnie Stam also deserves a mention. Covering what would usually be Nzogbia's role on the wing, Stam really summed up our tenacious display. He offered an attacking threat and never ever shirked his defensive duties. I'd rather see a hard working player like Stam in the team instead of someone like Nzogbia who seems to be more concerned with having a sulk instead of playing for the team. If the rumours are true and Nzog will be leaving us for either Birmingham or Sunderland, it can't come soon enough. Good riddance !
Now we need to build on this win and start to put together a run. Something which was said all too many times last season. It's early days yet of course but Saturday's win has really given me some encouragement. It all stems from the fact that we really had to grind out the win against Tottenham to get the three points. It was a factor which was constantly missing last season. We just seemed determined to get something out of this game from the very start - it's character like that which will hopefully serve us well in some of the tricky games to come.
The next test will be against Sunderland at the DW stadium. Now, if this is the same Wigan who showed such shizophrenic tendencies last season, then we'll probably lose that game 3-0. Here's to hoping that this new improved, shinier, glossier Latics side run out in two weeks time.

good showing by the latics after two consecutive 6-0 defeats. I love to see wigan coming out of the relegation fight and get some mid table finish
but a single win oven the spurs are not gonna do it. so consistancy is the real key.

Whle no doubt, Wigan played much better than what they showed in their first two games, chalk this win up as a result of Tottenham's energy and focus being on the mid week Champions League Qaulifier.
They were flat and lacked energy. Redknapp needed to mix up the squad much more. Made a mistake in not starting Keane and Dos Santos.
