Ouch ! There were painful moments last season which I had to cover in this blog, but none more depressing then the 4-0 loss at home to Blackpool this Saturday. I can take losing to the likes of Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea - they're good teams so I guess there's no shame in it.....but this was BLACKPOOL ! It's going to be a long hard season.....

Why oh why did the football have to come back !? I was happy over the summer - watching the World Cup, dreaming that we might make a few decent buys and enjoying our lovely hot weather (Hmmm, maybe I'm embroidering my imagination a little too much here) ...and then the football season kicked off this Saturday. What a downer.

The worst thing about Saturday's performance was that Blackpool were literally better in every department than us. I'm willing to bet that even Blackpool's phsyio's were of a higher standard while the Blackpool coach was probably faster with softer seats.

Our defence, and I include Kirkland in this, were absolutely shocking. Alcaraz, who had a good World Cup and even scored against the likes of Italy was pulled all over the place. He looked like he had about as much positional sense as a blind cat. The last goal summed up the game for us. A cross - come - shot by Baptiste which Kirkland fumbled into our net.

A lot of pundits had picked Wigan to be amongst the teams heading for the drop. Very, very stupidly I thought to myself that they'd got it very wrong, however, looking at Saturday's performance things might get worse before they get better. Our next league games are against Chelsea and Spurs which absolutely terrifies me.

Speaking after the game, Roberto Martinez said that it looked as if Wigan weren't ready for the Blackpool game. Now, maybe I'm wrong but isn't it the managers responsibility to make sure that we ARE ready for games ? I'd think that's probably one of the most important things on his 'To-Do' list. I'm very rapidly starting to lose faith with Bobby. The way things are going he's going to be lucky to still be in a job by the time October comes.

Sorry that this blog was a tad depressing. It takes a lot for every drop of confidence you had for the season to be knocked out of you after one mere game, but hey, we somehow managed it !

Thanks for reading. Until the next time blog comrades........

Villa fan here. This time last year we started off with an abject home defeat against you lot. Next league game we won at Anfield.

If Wigan showed nothing else last season it was that they were capable of pulling off results such as the one at Villa Park and also, sadly, ones like the one at White Hart Lane.

Early days yet lads. Think West Brom, think Wolves, think West Ham (they were dire on Saturday. All is not lost!

I hope this is just a case of people who are still figuring out how to play with each other. No team can be successful without a good defense...I hope THOSE guys quickly get it sooner rather than later. But, I still have high hopes...with even higher expectations now...that they will figure it out and pull off a remarkable season. There is no reason why they shouldn't and can't. I just hope it doesn't get to the point where I shouldn't and can't watch these boys anymore. Here's to a great run! Cheers!

Thanks for finally saying what I had been trying to avoid thinking.

Agreed we are "absolute rubbish" we need at LEAST six new signings before the end of the month, and a striker at that. Why couldn't we get Craig Bellamy...he went to CARDIFF, and they're in financial difficulties. Our defensive skills are non existent and we dont have anyone in our team who can cross a ball. Dont get me wrong we have done a fantastic job to stay in the PL for 6 years, but we could be relegated before Xmas unless DW puts his hand in his pocket.
