It's not an easy time being a Wigan fan at the moment. Successive thrashings at the hands of Blackpool and now Chelsea, fused together with a very forgettable end to last season has meant that the pressure is now very much on Roberto Martinez. Are things going to get any better any time soon ?
Sadly, I'm not really seeing an end to these horror performances anytime in the near future. Whatever you thought about the performance against Blackpool was probably echoed in the game against Chelsea. Our defence was awful, we showed no fight and were so toothless upfront it was almost laughable. All of these factors seem to be a common theme so far in the two games in which we've played.
Lets pull no punches, at the moment we're absolutely dreadful. If I was in a more positive mood I'd suggest we urgently need to address our weaknesses by making a transfer or two but in the three transfer windows that Martinez has been at the club I'm not sure if he has made even one half decent signing. If you disagree then I'd be interested to hear !
Victor Moses is a Martinez signing and is someone who I'd like to see more of but right now he hardly seems to be getting much of a chance. He looks like he's a youngster with talent - he could be the player that gives the team the much needed lift that is so currently sought after. He deserves a chance, even if it's just because Boselli has looked so out of sorts.
Dave Whelan has today said that he has no intention of sacking Martinez but with a trip to Spurs to come, another shocking result could force his hand. One things for sure - things can't carry on like this.
The media seems to think that the first manager out this season will probably have the first name Roberto. Whether it's Mancini or Martinez I guess only time will tell, but at the moment things aren't looking too good for our Bobby.

Wigan looked great in the first 20-25 minutes but once Chelsea scored it was downhill from there. They did look impressive for a while though. If they could keep that up for the game...

They really do look awful. They may be controlling possession for long stretches; but they aren't creating any kind of scoring chances - I really don't remember one good chance against Chelsea in the first half. I think the real problem is in midfield. No real creativity there. On top of that, when N'Zogbia & Rodallega play on the wings, neither ever really tracks back on defense, exposing the back line. If they really had a bid of 8mil for N'Zogbia, they should have taken it. I don't see why anyone rates him. All he has is speed -sure he gets by some people, but then consistently makes bad decisions or puts a cross directly into a defender's mid-section or into the stands.
