What an amazing win over Arsenal. To come back from the dead the way we did has really convinced me that we're moving in the right direction.

Let's be honest, it hasn't been the greatest of seasons. To flirt with the relegation battlers in the way we have, after the highs of last season, has been disappointing to say the least. However, the fact that we have beaten Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea this season shows that the foundations are there and next season doesn't have to be quite so bad.

Our victories over these teams weren't exactly lucky wins either. On each occasion we fully deserved to take the three points after being the better team. I'm sure some people might say that Arsenal should have had the game wrapped up today but we never stopped working or believing and for Arsenal to ship three goals in the last 10 minutes - that isn't just unlucky, our win was merited by the belief and desire we showed.

The Arsenal win shows that Martinez deserves his shot at a 2nd season with the Latics. I know some fans (myself included) have grumbled about the manager this season but the brilliant Liverpool win and the belief he gave our players in the 2nd half against Arsenal show that he must be doing something right. If we can just get that bit of consistency about our game then we'll be dangerous for most teams. One of the reasons that we find ourselves in our current league position is that we're easily the most Jekyll & Hyde team in the Premier League. Hopefully that will change next season.

On the subject of the Arsenal game, I'm really glad that Ben Watson got a chance. I've always thought he deserved more of a run in the team then he has been getting. I thought he was one of our best players on Sunday and he took his goal well. Talking about things being deserved - I'm also glad that Scharner was finally dropped. His performances in the last few weeks have been dire. Hopefully this will be the wakeup call he needs - we all know what a good player he can be.

I realise the DW stadium wouldn't normally be considered one of the best stadiums for atmosphere in the league but it was an amazing place to be in the 2nd half against Arsenal. When Watson scored to make it 2-1 you could really sense the belief among the fans. When we made it 2-2 you could almost reach out and touch the positivity everyone was bringing to the game. I just wish things could be like that every week.

Thanks for reading. If you’re a Latics fan and your reading this, just take 5 minutes out of your day to remember N'Zogbia's curling shot which flew past the helpless Fabianski to make it 3-2. There, that feels good doesn't it ?

Until the next time...

Im an Arsenal suporter. I like Martines and Wigan team. They actually try to play football ! Don´t like the teams that try to kick Arsenal and hope for a draw. Congrats ...u deserved it.

As for Arsenal they stopped playing and lacked passion. aso all the injured players that did not play would make a much stronger team than the one that played today.

Next season we need a new goalkeeper and two new players. Then Arsenal will win the title.

Last season was boring. And the football was horrible.

Hi, I'm a Spurs supporter. I think the moment when N'zogbia scored is the same as when Bale made it 2-0! for us.

While I admire Wenger's philospphy in transitioning his youth players into the senior team. It is quite obvious now, that after a few years without winning anything, that his philosophy needs changing a bit. Arsenal needs more accurate wing play.Theo is not delivering consistently enough. They need a better striker to cover for Van Persie/Ashavin. Seems Edwardo taking a bit long to come back to his best. And another world class attacking midfielder to play along side Fabregas or cover for him would be great. Ofcourse Vermalin, needs beter support in the central defense.

Don't get too carried away Mr. Johnson - the team Arsenal fielded on Sunday played like a mid-table team, and were still beating Wigan comfortably until the 80th minute. I was watching the game with an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach. At 65 mins I turned to my wife and said "Wenger needs to bring on RVP now to get a 3rd goal and kill this game off". He didn't and the team capitulated in the worst possible way.
Having said all of this, congrats to Wigan - the team didn't stop believing and fought hard for a win which, in the end, was deserved because of the spirit they showed. Good luck next year. I'm sure the Gunners will be meeting you again in the Premiership.

Dear Mr.Wenger,
we have always admired and supported you. You built the Arsenal team into a respectable outfit during the time of Tonny Adams, Pirres, Viera, Henry etc. However your fundamental weakness has been the sustainability phase.

History helps us to predict the future. But the future can never depend on the glories of the past. Five seasons without a cup canot be toralated by the team of Arsenal caribe at any cost.

Your arrogance, kwnow it all attitude and failure to analyse that Arsnal's ability to dominate depended on skills and the physical presence have completely destroyed Arsenal. Lack of arial power and physical strength makes Arsenal the only giant team that cannot convert one chance out of 15 corner kicks.

My simple piece of advice to you is one; carry out a diagnostic SWOT analysis, identify our strength, our weakness, tap the opportunities and address our threats. Lets know at what stage players should be replaced and apply appropriate replacement strategy.

I have submitted a comment saying this arsenal needs to buy players to change their fortune or even the manager but there are people defending & saying arsenal won't be what it be if wenger wasn't here. But do remember, even if wenger wasn't here. I believe the board will also bring in a good manager to push the club further. The game against wigan is a true evidence. Wenger has lost his plot & tactics. Wigan is clearly tactically outclassed & better in every department in the 2nd half.If the board arsenal do happen to see this comment. Please heed our plea to have a change of blood. Change the Manager! please, we need to buy & if wenger stubborn thinks no...then he have to go.

Isnt this a wigan blog? What in the lord's name are them friggin gooners doing here?

I am also a di-hard gunners fan. However, this Wigan team showed tremendous spirit. The type of poise and desire to do what they did frankley is something they can build on. i love Roberto, hopefully, he will place more of his stamp on this team next year (this team was inherited). They are courageous enough to be offensive, be risk taking. Good luck for next year. As for the gunners; the didn't deserve the victory. To show up and expect victory is arrogant. Their effort was shameful and tame. The fight they showed earlier was gone and they came up against a team that was willing to fight all the way. Both these teams will be to reckoned with next season.

It feels so good for me, as a neutral football fan watching that 3rd goal, jumping from my seat.....and witness my gooners friends in agony, bombarded me with furnitures and curse the gooner's manager of taking out theo walcott ~ no word can express the satisfaction ~

We really need a top class goalkeeper, striker and ruthless central defender. Without Vamaleen and Gallas and Song we have sufferd alot. We need good cover for these players. Wenger shouldnt have let Lehman go so early. Am sure he is still much better than all the goalkeepers we have at the moment.

Posted by tumuhairwe kenneth on 04/21/2010

Wenger should buy a goal keeper & more defenders otherwise Arsenal will keep on trailing the big four.

It really shows how narrow minded most football "fans" are when a Wigan blog turns into an Arsenal discussion. Go home glory hunters

MU fan here.

Aside from MU, Wigan is one of the team I love watching.

The never say die spirit. The legendary first season in the top flight a coupla years back. But then players had to go and move on. Wigan survived somehow, albeit a couple of close calls.

It isn't just sheer luck.

So to all ye sore Arsenal losers, you don't win games until the final whistle is blown. Leading 2-0 up until the 80th minutes doesn't make you the winner. And went on to lose 2 goals margin in the space of 10 minutes to an 'undeserving underdog' team, as you perceive, only make you even worse losers.

So sit and grip tight. Then admit it. Give them credit where they're due. Wigan were outstanding in that match. At least in the last 10 mins.

Though the N'Zogbia goal was superb, (I love the man) My fave moment was when the ball got dropped on Brambles head...how good was that??? LMAO

Here a Honduran soccer fan !!!

I watched Wigan taking on the Gooners live in my country Honduras. They really deserved to win that game !!! It was amazing !!!

I had never heard of Wigan Athletic before, until Steve Bruce signed Wilson Palacios. I truly enjoy watching this team play !!! They never give up until the final whistle !!!

They still have to prove consistent after every match.

I think that Bruce found a new source of really cheap, but good players by giving a chance to the likes of Figueroa, Thomas, Palacios,Valencia, N`zobia, Rodallega, etc. Bobby knows where to look at now !!! If the Latics could only hold to them for more than a couple of seasons would be fantastic !!!

But if they have to sell the players, at least they can cash on them !!! Buy cheap...sell expensive !!!
