I really hope the mini break we've had has done has some good. Some important games are coming up and we need to start turning things around to avoid a nerve tingling relegation dogfight come the end of the season.
First up is the massive game against Bolton on Wednesday night. Even if you know nothing about both teams, a cursory glance at the league table, with ourselves in 16th place, Bolton in 19th will tell you everything you need to know about this fixture, it's simply a must win game. No more draws please, no more Martinez saying that he was happy with the performance and we deserved more from the game. It's time to start to put results away as it gets ever nearer to the business end of the season.
I watched Bolton vs Spurs today and I didnt see anything to be scared of at all. Bolton dominated the first half but faded away so badly as the second half wore on it was almost scary. Spurs could have won pretty comfortably in the end. Watching Bolton though reminded me quite a bit of dear old Wigan. They have recently appointed Owen Coyle, a manager who likes his teams to pass the ball around. Quite different from what Bolton have been used to for the past few years and it's clear that the system that Coyle wants to play is going to take time to take hold and become effective. Kinda like us and Martinez.
I'm hoping Martinez doesn't start with Scotland. Watching him play for the last couple of games, it's becoming clear - Scotland just isn't a Premier League striker. The chances that he seems to waste means that for me, Victor Moses must start the next game. I know Moses is completely untried and untested at this level but I think he deserves a chance and Scotland has just been so dire lately I honestly don't think Moses can do any worse.
I hope we can get something from the Bolton game. We've got some really hard fixtures coming up after that - Spurs, Birmingham and Liverpool. The next four games really could define this season for Martinez.
Lets hope there's some good news to write about in the next post.

Paul: I just wanted to let you know as a guy who was born and raised in the States, and who will be cheering his head off for the US National Team when group play begins in June...but who is also a crazy Wigan fan...I really enjoy reading your posts. It gives me, what feels like, an "insider's" perspective, or better yet, a more educated perspective than I have. I have echoed your remarks and insight with a high percentage. I just wanted to extend my gratitude for taking me as close to DW Stadium as humanly possible. Cheers!
