Wigan Athletic

Don't worry ! Don't panic ! Whisper it in hushed tones, things aren't as bad as they seem ! I know you think I may be going mad, but i'm telling you - everythings going to be ok. Ok, we have definitely played better in the last few seasons but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. As the comedic genius Gerrard Houllier would say: "We've turned the corner"

For a start, although there has been times this season when we have played so badly that it has seemed like the under fives team from the Rhyl Tea Rooms Division 3 league would comfortably beat us, there are currently six teams worse then us in the Premier League. Check out the table if you don't believe me ! If you think we're bad then imagine how Portsmouth must feel.

I keep hearing alot of grumbling about Bobby Martinez at games. He deserves a chance though and I sincerely hope that we keep him at least for the whole of this season. Martinez is trying to build something decent here and it will take time. To tell the truth I'd rather go down with Bobby then axe him now and bring someone like Gary Megson in for the rest of the season. I mean how bad would that be !?

A lot of fans forget, Paul Jewell had a dodgy start to his time as Wigan Manager but he ended up completely changing the outlook of this club. Martinez can do the same.

We've got some winnable games coming up in the next few weeks. Hopefully this can help us start to pull away from the relegation zone and lay the foundations for a solid season. Looking ahead to our games in February we should definitely be looking to take points from the games against Sunderland, Bolton and Stoke. By the end of next month it wouldnt be impossible for us to be talking about how Martinez has turned us around.

We need to keep postive at the moment. Sure, we've had better times but things definitely are not as bad as they seem. Lets enjoy the season...it could be worse, we could support Portsmouth.....

Picking up Victor Moses today is a huge lift to our squad. He's a young explosive player who can change the course of a game in a flash and brings pace to the attack. If paired with Hugo, I can see more chances and hopefully more goals. He is the pick up we needed to strengthen our squad and avoid the relegation fight.
