Not a good couple of weeks. The Marlon King stuff was bad enough but add to that a thumping at the hands of everyones relegation favourites Portsmouth and a draw against Fulham - two games which were very winnable - and I don't think thats what Wigan fans had in mind ideally for on or off the pitch business. Where is it going wrong ?
So, two very disapointing results. To finish up with only 1 point from games against a Portsmouth team who have looked awful so far this season and a Fulham side who like us, have seemed to lack consistency plus were coming back from a difficult European tie against Roma ....what can I say, both results are not going to be up there in the seasons highlights package.
I really think that we are going to have to buy this January in order to steady the ship a little. This isnt a sudden reaction to two bad results but a summing up from our season so far. We really do seem a little all over the place at the moment - from outplaying Chelsea to a 4-0 drubbing against the Premier League's bottom side. I think those two games really highlight our season so far - from magical to madness.
I think we need a bit more experience and steel in our side. I think we have the quality and we have the Manager to develop a skillful side to our game but when we come round to playing away to a relegation threatened team who are scrapping for their lives then perhaps quality and skill needs to balanced out a little with graft and sheer-will-to-win. I definitely think our midfield could do with shoring up a little. The last few games have shown that we're missing Cattermole - a great player for us who could not only tackle but could also pick out a pass. But who to properly replace him ? Someone like Scott Parker would be brilliant but i'm not sure if he'd exactly come to us. Maybe players like Nicky Butt or Alan Smith are more realistic targets though ? They'd also offer us the experience we badly need.
What do you guys think ? Would be interested to hear your thoughts.....

Yeah, I think that the reason for our inconsistency is constant overconfidence... we get good results then we suddenly decide to try something new - past two games both had Jason Scotland, who is improving but still NOT GOOD, up front while Jordi Gomez sat on the bench, once we took Rodallega off (bad move, IMO), and as evidence of this weak front, our only goal was scored by a defender. But that is our problem, I agree completely with the fact that we need new players, we only have a few options other than Scotland, there's the inexperienced Jordi Gomez and the fading Kapo, who isn't even an actual striker. Only thing is I think we should be looking more at strikers - we have some great mids even though they may lack cohesion - Scharner is reliable, Rodallega can be fantastic, and Sinclair, even though he's on loan, has his moments even though he's shown to be inexperienced and, thus, selfish.
