What a fantastic result the Chelsea game was ! An exceptional performance from every one of the Latics proves we have a team which can beat anyone on our day and with the next game at Hull - definitely a winnable game if ever there was one - things are looking up for the mighty Wigan !

A great victory but one thing that did leave a little bit of a sour aftertaste after the game was how so many so called experts and pundits were saying that this result proves that we wont go down. Fair comment but were we really being touted as relegation certainties ? Even without thinking about it too much I can name about 5 clubs who should be alot more worried about the dreaded 'R' word then us, not to mention the fact that we had a great season last season. Then again, I guess thats how small clubs like Wigan get treated - we always seem to be looked down upon and perhaps never get the credit we fully deserve. If we can continue with results like Saturdays though then hopefully that credit will be a bit more forthcoming.

A lot of Chelsea fans who couldnt have actually seen the game will tell you that we won because of the sending off and the penalty. This couldn't be further from the truth. I've met a couple of Chelsea fans who attended Saturdays game and they have all said the same thing....that we outplayed them from start to finish. I think Mr Bobby Martinez sums this up best with his comment after the game "The sending-off changed the perception of the game but it would be very unfair to say we beat Chelsea because of that decision. The performance from the first minute to the last deserved that"

So now to this Saturdays game against Hull. I think most people would agree that we can definitely win this one but it almost wouldnt surprise me if we didnt. Our problem so far this season seems to have been consistency. What we did for 90 minutes against Chelsea we have shown in patches with the games against Everton and West Ham. It's going to take time for Martinez's ideas to form and manifest themselves on the pitch but it looks like its slowly but surely taking shape. We should have too much for Hull though. Our defence should be too strong for them and they seem to have quite a few problems scoring goals at the moment.

Here's to hoping we are talking about back to back wins next week !
