I've had loads of Managerial heroes as a kid, but to be honest not many of them have had the hotseat here at Wigan. Yes I admired Bruce and Jewell most recently but I've started to think that Martinez is going to out do both of them.....Let me explain....
I've always admired the Managers who seemed to pay attention to what the fans wanted. The guys who weren't afraid to get their team to put on a silky passing show because, after all, this game we love is about entertainment isn't it ? I reckon that Martinez is such a manager who knows the sort of game us fans want to see. Ok, we may be Wigan, we may have spent most of our history in the lower leagues, we may have more illustrious neighbours but we've earnt our right to play in the Premier League, so why can't we have fun doing so ? At the moment some of the football we're playing is a joy to watch. If there's any neutrals reading then give us a chance and check out one of our games sometime. We havent got as many household names as Man Utd or Liverpool but trust me you'll be entertained....
The last two games against Man City and Burnley have started to show Martinez's plans coming together. Four points from games against a City side I think are going to be a genuine title contenders this season and a really tricky away game against Burnley who have already taken the scalp of Man United at Turf Moor this season. You can't really complain with that can you ? The Burnley game was especially pleasing as we really seemed to dominate and seeing as how we originally went behind early on it would have been so easy for our heads to drop and end up with nothing out of the game. It was really pleasing to see the link up play too between Rodallega and Scotland, Scotland is actually starting to look like a pretty good buy. He holds the ball up well and seems to compliment Rodallega's skill. Maybe we've got the origins of a decent strike partnership there ?
The one thing I think Martinez has got over his predecessors at Wigan is that he seems to have a long term project in mind. If things come together then the football we play is going to be quite special to watch and hopefully we can push on from merely fighting to stay in this division.
I'd be really interested to hear about what you all think of Martinez. Obviously it's early days so far but does he inspire confidence in what you've seen from the Latics up to now ? Or are you left feeling under-whelmed and longing for Brucey to come back !? Let me know....
Until next time....hope your all having a good week.........

I feel like the way your article feels ... I was a doubter ... then, after beating Chelsea then losing to Hull, I was in the 'anything could happen' category, now I am full of optimism and looking back we nearly beat, maybe should have beaten Everton away ... Furthermore, Martinez seems to know how to employ his players more effectively than Bruce, he speaks of making the fans proud to be Wigan supporters after good performances, his signings have been more consistently good than Bruce's and he is far more articulate than most Prem managers... his use of prepositions is almost faultless and that's good for a Spanish speaker ... I LOVE HIM ... I think he could be a managerial god ... let's hope he gives himself time for a proper baptism by staying with wigan for a few seasons.
I would also like to say that Dave Whelan, as much as I dislike some of his traits, will not have overstretched Wigan financially and this will be in our favour in the coming seasons I reckon.

I think roberto is doing a fantastic job we have beaten a top club with ease and out passed a city team full of stars and vs burnley we picked ourseleves up after going down early to win with ease and played some decent stuff the 2nd goal was a joy to behold great pass frm gomez and good link up play by scotland to role it to hugo who stuck it so sweetly when we were losing 4-0 and 5-0 vs utd and arsenal and was listening to some fans say he has to go not got a clue this man get bruce back i turned to them and said shut up he will get it right remember jewells first season we lost to canvey island and then the rest was history but with roberto we are tying to play football for the first time instead off the long ball rubbish we had to endour with bruce so hats of to roberto and jonesy the future is looking rosie and we got a manager who cares about the club and the fans and not his ego

Yes I do share your views on Martinez I think progress is being made in the consistancy and learning from mistakes area and will finish in the top 10 at the end of the season.Unlike the mercenary Bruce Roberto has a passion for Latics and the town of Wigan in general.I look forward to next season with great interest.
