West Ham United
Posted by Billy Blagg on 01/14/2010

In case readers of this column think I am being derelict in my duty in failing to report the numerous rumours of bids to buy the heart and soul of West Ham United, then let me assure you that is not the case.

Put simply; I'm not interested in rumours but only facts. When, by whom and for how much the club eventually get purchased - and the only cast-iron certainty is that it eventually will - is then the time I will jump in with my feelings. Until then this is just another week in the continuing soap drama that is West Ham United FC.

Time for the dumph-dumphs?*

(*Readers not aware of the UK soap called 'EastEnders' may not understand this; in which case, another time perhaps?)

I totally agree with you.
It must be really boring being a Man Utd or Chelsea fan, year in year out trophies and championships....at least supporting West Ham United you get more for your money, we are soap-operatastic.

Blagg: "I'm not sure I ever said you get more for your money exactly...."

Have you got any favorites in this race, Billy? I'm leaning towards rooting for Fernandes, and frankly the track record of Massimo Cellini scares me.

Blagg: I'm looking for Fernandes to be honest. The Sullivan / Gold combination worries me - as does the probable appointing of Karren Brady upstairs. I'm not sure the Cellini bid is really a goer anyway.

Heya Billy,

I am rooting for Fernandes as well. I am Malaysian too. But the fact is that he is also a Hammers fan so that is more secure for our long term future. The other two bidders seem to be more interested in the "business" aspects and not the football..

I'm still new to following Premier League football, my West Ham fanhood only dates back 4 years now. I was looking up information on Sullivan/Gold, and reports seem to suggest that they (and Brady) did an admirable job of bringing Birmingham City to where they are today. Fans seem to say that they didn't put a lot of money towards the club. Is that the underlying reason for why there is so much angst about their bid? I don't know if there's more information in the UK, than what I've found.

I think Cellini pulled a bad move by getting the way of other bids, we might have this sorted out right now if it wasn't for his interference. I think Fernandes has a good track record with having a lot of money, already owning a racing team, and according to many sources is a lifelong West Ham supporter. The most important thing is getting someone with money in there so we can buy players in the next 12 days of the month!

Last night I had dream......

Claret and Blue Lotus F1's speeding through Monaco. Air Asia jets circled overhead, signwritting in the sky " Come on you Irons"

The possibilities for the club in the hands of Fernandez are huge.

Dear Mr Blagg, have been reading your work for years now. Loved the early WHO stuff. BRILLIANT.

Regards to Mrs Blagg and the tribe.

i feel sorry for hammers fans who remind me of long suffering blues fans
sullivan is a strange bloke who is not a close relaitive of the truth
gold is sullivans spin doctor and brady although a competent manager of admin has no idea what a fan wants for a board
just glad to see the back of them and sad they are back in the prem so soon

Blagg says: Thanks Blue. Mind if I post this on the WH forums?

About
Billy Blagg Born at an early age a mere defenders' spit from the Boleyn ground, Billy Blagg has seen every West Ham game from 1898 onwards. Blagg was mentioned by Kenneth Wolstenholme in 1966 as one of the people on the pitch during the famous Hammers win over West Germany that lifted the World Cup and he returned to the pitch again for the 1975 FA Cup Final but stayed on the terrace for 1980 FA Cup victory. Blagg, 26, now lives with his eighth wife and innumerable children in a small semi-detached with chintz curtains in Dagenham, Essex and still attends every Hammers match and training session.
