I think at the end of the first week our new owners need to sit down and have - as Mo in EastEnders would have it - 'ave a word wiv 'emselves'.

The need to engage the brain before letting the mouth into gear is very important at this stage of the game. There is much to be gained both on and off the pitch with a bit of serious tub-thumping and Gold, the dubiously attired Sullivan and hatchet woman Brady have all indulged to differing effect this week.

I've had serious debates with many fellow Hammer fans who are rather more au-fait with financial matters than me and I concede that some people did see the sub-prime mortgage catastrophe coming, but I still maintain that few foresaw the complete collapse of the Icelandic banking system and, as such, complaints about over-spending by previous regimes at Upton Park are as unedifying as they are pointless; it gets worse when we resort to childish name-calling too. Let's cut the talk about what may or may not have been caused by..errr...Eggy and concentrate on getting us out of the mire now.

Now having said that I don't like to see stories leaked about the board preparing to pay £100k to an unnamed player. It doesn't make the club look good alongside tales of ludicrous salaries handed out earlier and, though it may galvanise a few supporters, most of us just mumble and look away. Pay what you have to pay but don't tell us ok? And certainly don't tell us until after the deed is done!

But, finally - and this is important - talk all you like about moving to the Olympic site post 2012, sell the idea, calm those who are afraid of the thought, but never, ever, ever talk about renaming the club to West Ham Olympic like some slightly potty franchised North American outfit. That will start the wrath of the fans before a ball has even been kicked under the new regime.

OK back to work....and concentrate!

Never change the name of West Ham we would become a laughing stock and I will hunt the person down who suggests it . Ok rant done.

I don't think that the Davids have got over their sense of elation at having bought their beloved club, and elation tends to produce silly remarks like the ones we've been hearing this week. But I've also noticed that the act of putting a microphone under someone's nose means they are likely to come out with comments that they would otherwise have kept to themselves. But let's hope, as you say, that they come down to earth ASAP for the serious business of bulking up the squad. The good news is that Van Nistelroy has said no to the 100k and yes to Hamburg (as the papers here in Spain said he would three days ago), and so we don't have to go through the nail-biting experience of wondering when his knee's going to seize up. Great player when he's fit, but he hasn't been fit much over the past two seasons. We do NOT need yet another injury-prone striker, do we? And how about renaming the club "West Ham Olympique" - a continental name to prepare us for the Champs League? Just a thought.

Blagg says: I like it! Left-field thinking. How about Olympiakos in deference to the number of kebab shops in Green Street.

Well said mate,West Ham Olympic my arse,Brady's 'avin a laff ain't she,'You know it makes sense'How the **** does that make sense?

Agree with your points Billy - very nervy about the new regime. Of course the whole 100million debt is bull, they have 50m debt and valued the club at 100m including the debt - may be trivial but incorrect- i think they are trying to scare us into believing they are the great saviours...they are business people and obviously see some potential in order to invest.
I do agree we need a striker and a central defender...maybe a full back too - but right now i think its important to just keep what we have, we have enough talent to stay in the division and buying in January rarely does any good. Need 3 points at Pompey next week, cant wait to see them live myself a rare treat!

Good points. When I saw the Van Nistlerooy story in The Sun I thought 'here we go again' and my old man was saying the same thing, I understand it was only a loan deal but it doesnt look very good after all the problems. As for Brady, barring the ridiculous name change suggestion she spoke sense so I'm not too worried, Sullivan and Gold wouldnt stand for any of that anyway being old Hammers fans themselves. Im happy with who weve got and can understand them getting a little over excited, I probably would if I'd just bought my lifelong club!

We must allways be united

The story wasnt leaked, it was sullivan himself talking about the 100k/week story. The west ham olympic is way too premature, i agree there 100%. Let's move clear of the drop before we start planning for european football....

If Sullivan and Gold are the West Ham supporters that they claim to be then they should make sure that Ms. Brady's stupid idea of a name change is just that, a stupid idea.

Why not call it eastand whitesocks or cockney galaxy??They could kick goals on a soccer field too. They could also re-name the stands...They could call the new home end the playboy end!How about pole dancers at half time.(thats not actualy a bad idea!) Get real. Its WEST HAM UNITED.Show some respect to the hammers fans, the clubs history and football in general.

Blagg YEA!........ although Cockney Whitesox.... *reaches for telephone*

Dear Mr. Sullivan

Thank for taking the trouble to introduce yourselves as new owners of West Ham United ,Welcome , we also welcome Karen Brady as Deputy Chairperson.

l like you, have been a supporter of the Hammers for many years, during the Bobby Moore reign of Captaincy.

It is of concern to me and thousands of supporters the fact you and your fellow directors are talking up the move from Upton Park to The Olympic Stadium from day one of you purchasing 50% of the club.

lm sure a major decision such as this move would be better implemented if the majority of supporters agreed to move their venue,l would suggest a referendum is taken of all the 30.000 supporter's.

With respect Mr. Sullivan l would have thought, if you pardon the expression, got your feet under the table and gained the trust of the supporters prior to announcing the plans to move us to another ground.

You say your goodself and David Gold have the best interest of the club at heart ,that has yet to be proved.

Can you please ensure Ganfranco Zola is supplied with the players to keep us in the Premiership, this in turn will go a long way to establish trust and respect from the majority of the Fans towards the Board.

Yours Sincerly

D Brooks

i feel like i should be offended with the 'north american' comment, but i'm totally with you. the rename is ridiculous.

west ham til i die,

Blagg: Don't be offended. The rebranding of teams to make them sound more 'US sexy' has already caused hoots of derision in Cricket. It doesn't work here and is why Burt Bacharach never wrote '24 Hours from Stockport'

Posted by Zahir Noormohamed on 01/26/2010

Totally agree with you Billy..it's nonsensical to talk about the mess they've inherited and then let on about 100k/week in wages..the name change is ridiculous.

Hi all,

Agree with most of the comments. Fortunately i heard one of the davids, can't remember whether it was bling 1 or bling 2, but he did say the name would NOT change. So that concern can be put to one side, that just leaves the rest, as most set out by your good self. mr blagg. I stil coming to terms with this, i still can't decide whether it is good thing or not. Time will tell i guess. I still think 'arry would be the perfect manager....

Cheers

Blagg 1000

P.S. good to hear you have some work now

About
Billy Blagg Born at an early age a mere defenders' spit from the Boleyn ground, Billy Blagg has seen every West Ham game from 1898 onwards. Blagg was mentioned by Kenneth Wolstenholme in 1966 as one of the people on the pitch during the famous Hammers win over West Germany that lifted the World Cup and he returned to the pitch again for the 1975 FA Cup Final but stayed on the terrace for 1980 FA Cup victory. Blagg, 26, now lives with his eighth wife and innumerable children in a small semi-detached with chintz curtains in Dagenham, Essex and still attends every Hammers match and training session.
