West Ham United

West Ham have started the season in fine style by revealing two crap strips for the new campaign. The new home strip completely moves away from the traditional claret body, blue sleeves design - something fans are never happy about - and the away strip just ignores the fact we even play in claret and blue at all.

The new home strip is already being called the Marmite strip and, if, like me, you hate Marmite then you pretty much know what to expect. Good news is though, the club shop still do a fine assortment of classic shirts and I recommend that Hammers fans vote with their feet and purchase a '64. '75 or even, at a push, the '80 shirt. It saves dubious sponsorship associations too...

What were West Ham thinking? The first strip must be one of the worst I've ever seen, where are the blue sleeves? With the arrival of Burnley, the Premiership already has the Clarets, surley West Ham have enough history to stick with the Claret and Blue?
The shirt is unrecognisable as being a West Ham shirt, whoever sanctioned it should be hung up for treason.

What are you complaining about. There is nothing wrong with either strip and if you are a true Hammers fan, wouldn't care what they wear, as long as they play good football.

Blagg says: 'Curses discovered! I'm not a true West Ham fan at all - just snuck in here under cover of a 1965 Cup Winners Cup shirt. How did you find out?'

Too true too true, this years hope kit looks quite bad, I still prefer the 2000 kit to the more recent attempts. I actually prefer this years away kit, to lasts, though it seems almost as if they were trying to copy PSG's kit.

I'm afraid I agree Billy. The checkered home kit is mediocre at best. Hopefully the men will do it proud anyway. I do like the away kit though, and I'd buy it first, though I'm not likely to buy either. Still enjoy my 2007 away blue! Go Hammers, pound Wolves!

The new kits are god-awful. What a crying shame.

Seeing the kits during the Asia Cup, they didn't look half bad. Could of been worse, ie Hulls tiger print, or Celtic's neon green hoops.

Blagg says: 'OK James, I'll concede they COULD have been worse...'

dissenting vote. I love both kits. (Wouldn't mind a more subtle sponsor's logo.) And yes, I know the history, but it's nice not to look like Aston Villa since I can't stand them.

Blagg says "Point taken MG but couldn't we have looked a little more like Burnley?"

About
Billy Blagg Born at an early age a mere defenders' spit from the Boleyn ground, Billy Blagg has seen every West Ham game from 1898 onwards. Blagg was mentioned by Kenneth Wolstenholme in 1966 as one of the people on the pitch during the famous Hammers win over West Germany that lifted the World Cup and he returned to the pitch again for the 1975 FA Cup Final but stayed on the terrace for 1980 FA Cup victory. Blagg, 26, now lives with his eighth wife and innumerable children in a small semi-detached with chintz curtains in Dagenham, Essex and still attends every Hammers match and training session.
