"It is going to be a tough week. We play Portsmouth in the semi-final on the Sunday, then we have got Arsenal on the Wednesday, then Chelsea on the Saturday. It is not ideal but they are good games."

Harry Redknapp's look ahead to the week in mid-April that will shape Spurs' season proves once again that he is a master of understatement. The three games he lists are followed immediately by a visit to Old Trafford, and after that match on the 24th, the race for Champions League football next season might have a clear leader. As it stands, Aston Villa seem to be putting themselves out of the running, Everton are the dark horse, while Liverpool seem to have the easiest run-in of all the contenders. Any hopes that Man City would falter against Wigan were comprehensively dismissed by Carlos Tevez, leaving City as the team most likely to displace Spurs from fourth spot.

It was vital then that victory was achieved against Portsmouth and it was duly accomplished without the team having to exert themselves too much. With Portsmouth crippled by a points deduction and a raft of injuries - which only got worse as the game wore on at White Hart Lane - the Pompey old boys both on the field and on the bench did enough to win but without putting Portsmouth to the sword. Whether or not that was entirely by design is arguable, especially since Gomes was tested rather more than might have been expected against the team that props up the Premier League. Yet Kranjcar's low-key celebration after his goal and the Redknapp/Grant love fest in the press would seem to suggest that Spurs were not so keen to inflict further humiliation on a side that had conceded five against Chelsea in midweek.

Although the game had the air of a training exercise in its latter stages, there were a number of positives to take from it. Gareth Bale excelled once again, with the manager now talking about him as possibly becoming the first Welshman to win 100 international caps. Quite a turnaround for a player whose early days at Spurs were blighted by a combination of injury and a lack of form. Although reverting to full back for the Portsmouth game, Bale still managed to provide a substantial attacking threat and created the opener for Crouch with a wonderful cross. Kyle Walker made a more than competent debut on the other side of the field and was instrumental in setting up the second goal, which more or less killed the game off.

Portsmouth had so many players missing that they could name only six substitutes at the Lane. The additional injuries picked up during the game will weaken them further before the FA Cup semi-final, as will the absence of Jamie O'Hara, perhaps their most important player this season. Complacency is always a dangerous thing, but it would be pessimistic indeed to predict anything other than a tenth FA Cup final appearance for Spurs. A place in the Champions League, however, remains a much more elusive prospect.

That week — it's what it's all about, a shot at doing something special. What's not to like? Biggest test in 'Arry's career, too. Been a great season so far, going back to those opening heady days and four straight wins when we had a feeling something good was afoot. So bring it on. COYS!

Spurs must at all costs avoid considering themselves as psychologically inferior to Chelsea, Arsenal & Man.U. If this is their mind set, then they must not consider pursueing but abandon their goal in achieving to qualify for Europe. If they lack footballing skills against the 3, then they should resort to playing a 90 minute defensive & athletic role on a man to man basis.

It was a subdued Tottenham that played against Portsmouth, and hope this was as it was...and not too much effort needed. We cannot play like that against Sunderland on the weekend.

Great to see Huddlestone and Bentley back. Lennon on the way and Defoe supposedly back too. Pav and Defoe should be a given come Saturday.

It is going to be difficult and really think we need tp take at least 4 point off Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U, if we are to take 4th. Liverpool have a easy run in, and look to be back in form... though in this league you never know.

Not too worried about the FA Cup, and think this could be the year that is easier for Spurs to make it, with Liverpool faltering and Man City bound to improve ranks next year. Money doesn't buy success... but it does help.

Still have the faith... COYS!!!!

Spurs must learn to play the opposition game against Chelsea, Arsenal & Man U to earn more points to qualify for Europe. The typical man to man & their athletic skills can guide them. Trainers & coaches should be grooming the other players ( like Bale )in this regard.

There is only one Big Problem for 4th place & its for Man City & Liverpool to worry about & that is THFC because we are better than them ! The Costa Blanca suporters at Bar Med have got the red wine & champange ready. F/A cup is ours, the backroom staff & plus Harry will plot a Chelsea downfall ! Buy F.Llorente of Ath.Bilbao C/F a must.

Dear Spurs,

Just focus on the tasks ahead & take one thing at a time. The schedule is actually a blessing in disguise to gauge the team strength. If they can pull through, then the Champions League next year would not be of much problem. All the best & God bless.

In regards to the Rednapp/Grant love fest - watching Harry putting a consoling arm around the dishevelled figure of Grant reminded me of the song: "He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother".
Perhaps the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation can also donate a pound to help the needy and destitute at Pompey.

'Arry needs to stop going on bout how good Liverpool are like he did before we were rolled over at Anfield. Weve won more games and better team and squad then liverpool. Liverpool dont have divine right to fourth. Noticed how they show spurs near end on match of day. If it were liverpool they would show after top three. Move over Liverpool>theres someone bigger with more fans than u who need to be in.

Interesting times here w/ both the FACup and CL both on the Spurs mind. Tough to manage, but having Portsmouth at Wembley definitely makes things easier to manage.

If the Spurs can get 3 points against arsenal, i think it might be the kind of result which would have huge benefits both in the standings and their confidence. Its been year's since they beat their cross-town rivals and it would be perfect.

And, I'm also thing....

No Cesc for Arsenal
No Drogba for Chelsea
Possilby no Rooney for United...

Now your talking
