With only eight or nine weeks left to go until the end of the league season, Spurs sit at something of a crossroads. The run-in is beginning to look tricky, with Spurs in the main facing teams with plenty to fight for, either at the foot or at the head of the table.

April is particularly daunting, with successive games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man. Utd. Once those are out of the way, Spurs then take on Bolton and Burnley, who both could still be trying to avoid the drop as the campaign draws to a close.

While Spurs still sit in fourth, the challenges presented by the fixture list are compounded by the games in hand held by Aston Villa and Man. City. Harry Redknapp may well, therefore, be looking back to the trophy he won while manager of Portsmouth two seasons ago as the best chance of making this a year to remember at White Hart Lane.

The FA Cup draw has been kind, offering a semi-final against Portsmouth and avoiding Chelsea and Villa - but only, of course, if Fulham can be overcome in the sixth round replay.

The 0-0 draw at Craven Cottage was mostly a dull affair, with the two sides cancelling each other out. The high point for Spurs was probably the performance of Wilson Palacios, with his manager noting that "he was outstanding for us, really strong".

Palacios is still one booking away from suspension and his combative, purposeful style means that that tenth yellow card will eventually come. Hopefully by that point other players will have returned from injury, one of the reasons why Spurs had such a fresh-faced bench against Fulham.

There are other factors which would suggest that a place in the semi-final should be well within the team's grasp. Spurs are already accustomed to taking their cup opponents to a replay, as they did against Leeds and Bolton in the fourth and fifth rounds respectively. Spurs are the team with the FA Cup tradition, having won the competition on eight previous occasions.

Fulham are a much better side at home than they are away, as the league table shows. And once again the fixture list comes into play. Before taking on Spurs at White Hart Lane, Fulham face Juventus - twice - along with both Manchester United and Manchester City. Hopefully that will be enough to produce some tired legs and shaken confidence.

Lastly, a word about a player who has become such a model of consistency that he rarely gets a mention. It was very different for Heurelho Gomes when he made such a bad blunder at Craven Cottage in November 2008 that Harry Redknapp was reputedly on the lookout for another keeper. Against Fulham on this occasion, he acquitted himself well, making one particularly fine save from a Zoltan Gera header. He has had a lot more to do in other games and the team's position in the top four owes as much - and perhaps more - to him as it does to any other Spurs player. Gomes still produces the odd scary moment just to keep everyone on their toes but, in the main, it his spectacular saves that has caught the eye. Let's look forward to him making a few at Wembley.

I have a very simple philosophy when it comes to playing the opposition team. Yes, some opponents are more illustrious than others, but at the end of the day they just another 11 men each with 2 feet, 2 legs, 2 arms, 1 head and 1 body; EXACTLY the same physical make-up as our team. We will take on whoever the fixture list next presents us with no matter who it is!

Just to prove a point; we lost against the likes of Stoke & Wolves, supposed lowly oppostion! So bring on Chelski, ManUre, ARSEnal, whoever. We're ready and waiting!

Lastly, points in the bag is better than games in hand anyday. City and Villa must still play to get their points. We've already got ours safely tucked away!

As for the FA Cup, it's up for the taking. 2 more games for us before the final!

Lets give credit where credit is due, our forwards and midfield goes off to sleep when we are one nil up,fantabulous Gomes have to save face for the rest of the team, its through his face saving and herioc performances is the reason where we are sitting in the league table. Where is the Tottenham killer punch to match the likes of the top three.

Kind of an odd article from Colin. I cannot put my finger on it, but this article just gives me a different feeling.

Gomes has been great this season and deserves the recognition. I think that much work still needs to be done at attack. Keane and maybe Crouch should leave (and take their massive salaries with them) and we can hopefully use the proceeds to get an ace striker to fit in with Defoe and Pav. I am not 100% sold on either, but they have been much better than the other two.

Hopefully Palacios can avoid another yellow. He is by far our best CM, and the drop off to Huddlestone is significant in my minds. A new CM should be a must this summer (Sandro?), especially with Palacios expressing interest in playing for Real Madrid.

Colin - you kidding me ? Conceding 4th place to focus on CL league ? Get that noise out of here....We are in 4th place and clearly have the talent to finish in the top4. Not too mention, we face of against City which eliminates that game-at-hand right there. I know your conditioned to giving up since you've been in this spot on so many occassion in years past....But, lets have confidence in this squad. They clearly have the talent to finish the job...what's wrong w/ both the FACUP and CL in 2011???

I still like our chances to for fourth. City's game in hand does make me a bit nervous but they've shown me nothing. But then what I know, I'm a soccer fan in Kansas City, Mo.

It certainly will be interesting to see how the boys hold up to that string of games, especially if the ManCity game gets rescheduled so that it makes that a run of 4 very challenging games.

As for Palacios, I have been increasingly frustrated with him. You can generally count on him for working hard and making the tackles no one else in midfield would touch with a ten-foot pole, but he is starting to show the true South American in him by diving, flailing and whining more and more every match. That is not Spurs football. If you want to play that kind of shit, go a head and go on to Madrid. Id gladly take the 15mil. and get a respectable English CDM.

Everyone here is making way too big an issue of Palacios and Real. He isn't leaving, we aren't selling and they aren't buying.

That said, Spurs for 4th and FA Cup Champs! COYS

you seemed to have left out that before the clash we have with the big 3, we play blackburn, stoke, portsmouth, and sunderland, which are all very win-able games. Then bolton and burnley before the season ends...so thats a possible 6 wins...then the 3 games against the big 3, and whenever that match against City gets rescheduled. So finishing fourth and winning the FA Cup are very realistic. If we beat fulham on the 24th, we get a preview of portsmouth on the 27th before we face them again in the cup, not to mention their best player is Jamie O'hara so hopefully he'll be on our side even though he plays for them.

And Palacios is king, I'm just very disapointed that he's already pulling a Dimitar Berbatov claiming he has "dreams" to play elsewhere while were still fighting for the champions league.

Weston,
Good job stereotyping an entire continent. However, even if it were accurate, Palacios is from Honduras...which, you will notice if you so much as glance at a world map, is in CENTRAL AMERICA.
That nonsense aside, I think he provides a valuable service in midfield...the games without him on the pitch, Spurs have lacked any kind of determination and bite in midfield. He may not be the best passer of the ball, but his excellence in other areas outweighs the dimension that Huddlestone provides.

Dear Weston:
Has it ever occured to you why the Huddlestone/Palacois combination has been so effective for us? Palacois provides us with something we've been lacking for many years. ARSEnal had Vierra; ManUre had Keane; Wimbledon had Vinny Jones; Chelski had Dennis Wise; We had NOTHING. We needed a fiesty player who isn't scared to put himself out there and tackle! Then there's the Hud, who in my opinion is one of the games' best passers of the ball! So the one can tackle and win the ball; the other can pass it. It's obvious that a hard tackling player will get his share of dirty tackling back from opposition, so don't slate him!

Realistically, the FA Cup is now our big hope for the year. With a fully fit squad, i have no doubt that we would be fighting for third, not fourth. No Lennon, Hudd, Bentley, etc.. is a big problem. They are big game players that we need to have a chance to beat the big three on the run home. Having a look at the other chasing teams fixtures, ours certainly looks the toughest also. Of course i hope i am wrong, but as a Spurs fan, i have a pretty good excuse for being realistic and not blindly optimistic if past years spring to mind. On a different matter, my player of the past couple of months would be Gareth Bale. Absolutely outstanding. He has really stepped up this year and has just been amazing. Can't wait till him and Lennon are playing on the wings together...Wow!

Just to quell any Palacios to Real rumours already zooming around on the Web, its from an interview for a Honduran magazine ending with a few questions on his future as in 10 years down the line i.e what would you have liked to ahev acheived during your time playing football. Most players dream of playing for Real cant blame em for that right. Add over hyped media and BLAM Daily Mirror headlines.
He will be a big player for us, some rock solid performances interlaced with some slightly sketchy passing at times but he gives everything we have needed for a few years- that extra bit of steel in midfield.
Gomes is a real unsung hero this Season. He produces miraculous saves after each other and Spurs fans are almsot used to it now nudging each other on the arm saying "Class aint he." Our run in is pretty sharp but i reckon we can produce a suprise agaisnt Arsenal and Chelsea, we also gotta play agaisnt man city at some point away- a posponed game...It's gonna get feisty for 4th.
