As someone whose name is synonymous with wheeling and dealing in the transfer market, Harry Redknapp has been unusually quiet in the weeks following the end of the season. Nevertheless, rumors abound as to who might be leaving and who might be joining the club:

David Bentley/Ashley Young - Surely the mostly likely departure is David Bentley, who has been given clear indications by the manager that he has no future at White Hart Lane. Bentley has been an abject failure at Spurs and, given the amount of money shelled out for him, must rate as one of the worst signings in the club's recent history. Aston Villa are the favorites to take him, although reportedly for less than half the sum that Spurs handed over to Blackburn Rovers for his "services". There is also talk of Bentley and Jermaine Jenas being offered in a swap deal for Ashley Young. Young is far from being the finished article, despite being talked up to a ludicrous degree by Martin O'Neill. That said, a minority of the Spurs fans would be sorry to see the back of either Bentley or Jenas.

The Real Madrid Connection - With £136 million spent on Ronaldo and Kaka, Real Madrid are looking to offload players and Spurs have been linked with no fewer than four of these - Gabriel Heinze, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben, and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Heinze and Nistelrooy fall into the same category, former Man. Utd. players who have suffered serious injuries and whose best days are behind them. At 31 and 32 respectively and no doubt with substantial wage demands, they would be questionable signings. Robben and Huntelaar, both still only 25, would be much more tempting prospects.

The Rest of the Rumors - Darren Bent out, Kenwyne Jones in? In essence, the switching of one big clumsy forward for another. There was constant speculation about the acquisition of Jones during the January transfer window, but this now seems less likely given that Sunderland managed to stay up. By contrast, Spurs could do worse than to look at Tuncay, the outstanding player from the relegated Middlesbrough team.

Didier Zokora remains linked with a move to Sevilla, although the deal is apparently foundering on the size of the fee. The Ivorian is unlikely to get a game while Wilson Palacios is fit and available, so he should be allowed to go if anything approaching the £8 million that was paid for him can be recouped.

Finally, there is the ongoing saga of Roman Pavlyuchenko's future. The Russian striker will have noted the ominous statement from his international boss, Guus Hiddink - "Pavlyuchenko should seriously think about his future. He needs constant training and game time". With Russia striving for World Cup qualification, the striker may well look to leave in order to ensure his place in the national side. Stuttgart and Roma have been mentioned as plausible destinations.

Putting all of these possible moves to one side, no doubt Harry also has some transfer surprises up his sleeve. It should be an interesting summer.

Spurs need to get there act together. Every time the transfer window comes around Spurs is always rumored with some of the best players but never signs any of them. We're the great pretender of the EPL. The team needs to be shaken up. We need cover for Aaron Lennon such as Arda Turan. Left wing Marko Marin, Douglas Costa, Diego Capel, midfielders Hernanes, Ibrahim Affelay,Franco Zucillini, Christian Poulsen, Marek Hamsik, Forwards Jummi Briand, Walter,Nikola Kalinic, Klass Jan Huntelaar, defenders Bruno Alves, Danijel Pranjic, Rod Fanni. How long do we suffering fans have to wait?
LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Spurs72 on 06/27/2009

We wait until July the 1st, then We see who we can get, and who cares really who we are linked with, Tabloids are trying to sell papers and crazy Storys attract buyers

Posted by Kevmeist on 06/28/2009

721 is right, but I am still surprised at how quiet 'arry has been. Wasn't it just last year at this time (not under 'arry) that we had all sorts of "late" deals, went on to win every pre-season game and then fell flat on our faces?

I sure hope we don't repeat that!

Come on you Spurs!!!Don't wait until the last minute to get your players. You will not be able to gel them when the new season start. Learn from the previous few seasons' chaotic signings and don't make the same mistakes. Offload the bad apples and get new faces that can help the team to break into top 4...I dare you!!!

Posted by RJ on 06/30/2009

We need a great player with lots of charisma to stir up the passions of the team and everybody around it. GO Spurs, GO!

Posted by orange on 06/30/2009

Wake up giant!!! we need more then a top 8 fininsh comon!!!!!!!!! COMON YOU SPURS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by joseph on 06/30/2009

it all down to the management.
please give the authority to Harry to make the decision who he want and let the management negotiate with the $$$$.
that will get in new blood.
GO SPUR and let it HOT .................

Can we ship the new kits out with Bentley? What a waste...

Posted by Olimpia on 06/30/2009

What the spurs need a a great striker like Hondurian David Suazo, the black panther does not only have speed but also accuracy. The Spurs should consider signing him. As of now, Hondurian players have proved to be top, competitive players that can make a difference.

I WOULD HATE TO SEE ZACORA GO HE IS SUCH A GIFTED PPAYER AND GREAT COVER IN THE CENTRE MIDFIELD OR ANY DEFENCEY POSSITION

Posted by Elz on 07/01/2009

That's right. Why did we buy back Chimbonda? Time for Bentley and Jenas to go? We need cover for King and Woodgate and another left back. We all love the fast flowing still of game played but let's get some players that can do it.

Posted by Mark on 07/02/2009

I am a little surprised that Spurs have been very quiet. Although we do have a lot of talent at the club, and in my opinion, just a couple of areas need to be reviewed. Left Back, left mid, forward and centre back. My team: Gomes, Hutton, King (if fit), Woodgate, Lennon, Huddlestone, Palacios, Modric, Defoe and keane/Pav. I think give Huddlestone the chance this year, he has great passing ability and can pin point out a player anywhere. COYS!

Posted by rbpierce on 07/02/2009

really, it would be quite nice if not many moves were made. the team has a solid foundation and there is much to be said for continuity. jenas needs to be replaced as he is far to inconsistent to be occupying such an important position on the field. Modric might be able to do this now that Palacios is covering for him, but there are still doubts about his ability to keep the ball when bigger players attempt to push him off. If Modric is moved to the middle, then a LW must be bought (can anyone even remember how long this has been the case?). A forward who can hold the ball up and finish in the air would also be a good acquisition. These needs represent significant enough buys that not much else should be done. maybe some cover at LB (unless you honestly think Bale can do it).

Always interesting to note that having supported Spurs since 1972 I still flounder at the lack of local talent with all talk about bringing in so many international players, names of which I cannot even pronounce.
Where are the local kids or do clubs no longer support or even have a youth strategy as a succession factor!
Every year, more frustration. Every year same s**t. Every year 'we' (supporters) hope and every year we are left wondering what happened again.
Maybe one day before I leave this planet I would like to be 'really' proud to say I belonged to a winning football club like Spurs used to be.
I hope this might be presented to the club execs, players and whoever else is involved in the club and used as a wake-up call, but I doubt it...
Your forever none-the-less...

Must acquisitions:

1. Johnson from Man City (defence)
2. Jones from Sunderland (Striker)
3. Robben from Madrid (wing)
4. Vidic from Man U (central defence)

These players are all attainable would place Spurs in contention.

Up Spurs. I look forward to a very competitive season. Meanwhile we need to plug the leaking holes in the team. We need a creative midfielder who can understudy Modric and play if he's injured. Talk of contigency plans. We also need quality defenders. Take it or not, King is past his prime. We need a motivator who can play as many games as Terry in Chelsea.I live in Nigeria, and I love Tottenham, even though everyone around me cannot understand what has drawn me to Spurs. I try hard to make them see whats unique about my Tottenham. But this year i may run out of any logical reason if the team does not live up to its billings. I have faith in Rednapp, please dont let me down!

Can ANYBODY tell me what is happening with transfers ofplayers to Spurs!!!! I know Harry has to sell...and a lot have been earmarked to go. I have not heard ONE rumour of who we are going to get. Maybe Harry is waiting to see who is left after Man C don't need after courting most of the top 100 players in the world........quietest time of year I have ever experienced???

To properly address Spurs' transfer needs, you must first try and figure out Spurs' best formation. With the way that the team is set up RIGHT NOW, I personally prefer the somewhat unconventional 5-3-2 formation that was seen in the first half vs. Everton. Width would be provided on the flanks by Bale & Hutton operating as wing-backs, with King, Woody, & Corluka covering at the back. You could have a midfield trio of Modric, Palacios, & Lennon, and then 2 strikers.

However, surely this team will eventually be built relying on some variation of a 4-4-2. The greatest need remains a powerful, pacey target-man to complement Defoe. I'm actually fine with our coverage at LB, and I think Modric actually does well when playing on the left and drifting inside, a la Iniesta at Barca. I don't think we're as far away as many seem to think....I'd like to see 'appy 'arry give Huddlestone a consistent run of games at central attacking midfielder, let's see what the lad's made of

Posted by Maandip on 07/06/2009

Guys, i have full faith in Harry as he has had great spells with many clubs n has proven himself 2 be 1 of the very top most managers around..he has proven it yet again last season by bringing us up 2 the top 10 n even almost qualified 4 europe from the relegation zone, so y should he be critised in any way..i think he has done enough 4 1 season incharge 2 have our full support n faith with him..so what say we just give him another season n c what happens?! We have of course waited 4 a long long time but i really think Harry is capable of doing wonders 2 this current powerful spurs' squad that we already have! So come on you spurs, u cant let us down again..!

Posted by Tonyi, Niger Delta on 07/07/2009

We need to up the ante. There's really no need waiting till the last moment to buy and most importantly sell. We dont need players that cant play games and as such dont contribute anything but warming our bench, it is a painful waste. Harry needs to get players with potentials and AGE. To be in the top echelon, you need top class players. They dont have to be established but should have the promise like Berg, Mandzukic, Bastos etc. I am patiently waiting.... pls Harry, blow our minds!!!

I am from Singapore, well i hve supported Spurs since the heydays i believe its 1972. well well for Harry i have faith in him, look at the past season we were in the brink of relegated but Harry did the David Copperfield act.It was a great season just falling out on the UEFA qualification at the last minute.I believe Harry is doing his homework now, we will see a few players coming in to the squad. WIN OR LOSE NO MATTER WAT, I AM A DIE HARD SPURS SUPPORTER. One last thing is that Spurs always get good results from big names teams. I LOVE DAT. CHEERS TO ALL SPURS FANS.

Posted by bigbear on 07/08/2009

Hey guys,

For a start, I think at least this coming season we got someone right at the club and that is Harry. A good manager in place is worth more than 10 quality players. I rank him up there with George Graham & Martin Jol as the better managers in memory.

Past few seasons, Spurs has been into too many transactions, mostly rubbish deals. This season is pretty quiet and I place my trust on harry to get the right guy. Better not to buy than get a expensive white elephant. Anyone's thinking about Bent & Bentley? Of course I would love to see Robben don the spurs's white as I regard him 10 times better than lennon. However, Spurs may not seems tempting enough for Robben to come.

Problem area for Harry to reticfy:
Culucini in my opinion is better than Gomes. Brazil just dun produce good keepers.
We need some good & "fit" centre backs.
We cant depend on lennon to fly down the flanks alone. get some speedos.
Lastly, get a really good play maker. Modric is too weak vs strong defenders.

Posted by jedispurs on 07/08/2009

Our current defense MUST believe in themselves that they are gd enuff &they go into every game with the mindset not to concede. The club player & transfer of the season has to be Wilson Palacios. He is everything we need! Those who said jenas is crap pls look at our games 1-2 yrs ago. He provides so much energy to the team. Palacios will make him a better player. He just needs to look for more right passes. Modric is CRAP especially for the money we pay. Every pass he made comes with 5 lost possesion.I hope people know by now his best position is behind striker. Not on the left & definitely not as a second striker! LEt us go with Keane, Defoe & lennon(why we even sell kanoute?)I would say 4-3-3 or 5-3-2 with 2 Wingbacks.Need to make full use of the runs of chimbonda & bale. No huddlestone pls! Ask Capello & he will tell u this kid will never make it.
Spend only if we can get F.ribery, L.fabiano, W.sneider, & make an offer to fullham they cant refuse for Brede Hangeland

Posted by stephen laverty on 07/09/2009

Please spurs if we dont sign any players i dont care, as long as peter crouch doesnt arrive !! id settle for no new players thatn have that big goat .....

Posted by Desmond on 07/11/2009

I could not have said it better than Tonyi - "Please Harry, blow our minds"

Posted by whb on 07/12/2009

Did someone on here really suggest that we could get Vidic? Is this the drunken Spurs comment site? The frustrating part about the market right now is that we're in a global recession, so most teams don't have much to spend and what they do have to spend is going to come from sales... that means, if they're going to sell off a key part of their teams, they're going to ask exorbitant prices so they can get someone to cover... And so we, like most other clubs, are stuck. We will have two major signings. Crouch will be one and another midfielder will be the other (as if we need another).

keep trying to get ashley young he is awesome and fast and its like having 2 lennons on the field

Posted by a.a.y. on 07/16/2009

pls, pls, pls 'arry do something quick. we need to do sumtin abt d backline a more adventorous midfield and a world class striker up front. else we will be singing d same old song come the end of 09/10 season.give taarabt n huddlestone more playing time and you will be suprised.

Hi i am frm malaysia...we hve been very quiet in the trsfr market so far...we need some quality players so tat we can challenge the top4.we were there in the 60s/70s/80/early 90s...but nw wat happened....come on u spurs....

Posted by gary tang from singapore on 07/19/2009

I am die hard spurs fan.. i think harry is a good coach but i think it is the team that lack commitment.. we are always undone by sloppy play and the desire to win is very low.. If you guys got watch some live game last season, i think the this team is very naive.. I am glad we sign palacios , we need competive players .. My line up: gk: gomes rb: hutton LB: bale CB: woodgate and dawson MC: palacios and jenas RM: lennon LM:modric ST: keane and defoe SUBS: cudicini, palyuchenko, huddlestone , dos santos , king , gilberto, chimhonda.. pls sell bent and bently and pls buy robben

Posted by Maandip on 07/19/2009

I think crouch would be a really really good signing as we would be able 2 play long as we used 2 when berba was still around..we saw the partnership of defoe and crouch at pompey so why not here? We have a better midfield here..who knows the partnership of keane and crouch may turn out 2 be even better?! lets just hope he arrives.. Harry is really good with his signings so frankly, im not too worried about it..even if he doesn't sign any, he's definitely having something in mind and he could surprise us all in the coming season..no doubt about ashley's abilities..he'll be an even better signing.. probably the signing of the season for spurs if we do get him..we really do need a centreback knowing that none of our current centrebacks, woodgate n king, would stay fit whole season long..dawson is decent but not gud enough whereas gomes is an excellent keeper though he's very prone 2 errors but i think he'll be fine now as he's adapted 2 life in the BPL..so come on you spurs, spur us on!

Posted by daniel on 07/19/2009

Other clubs are busy in the transfer market but Spurs yet to get one good deal done. Looks like no one is interested to join Spurs based on the past poor records. Hope HR could bring more quality players with winning mentality and put Spurs on the top again. Patrick Viera & Ashley Young will be a good buy as well as let Keane, Bent & Bentley go. There many die hard fans like me out there, start winning & beat the big guns to make us proud to say " We are Spurs". HR should stop going after Portmouth players especially P. Crouch.

Posted by SpursSg on 07/23/2009

Do Spurs have the money to buy and pay the salary of the BIG Players?? Even Spurs have the money, are they willing to come? . With the players Spurs have now, they still can break to the top 4.
Harry must know how to fit in players. Change their position if need to.

Posted by william on 07/24/2009

have a little faith in harry. he turned things around for spurs last season. let him get the players he needs for us to go to europe. but i'd love to see Mariano Gonzalez from porto and Niko Krancjar joining our attack force.
