Word up, PhBell fans!

Seems like my last blog on the Chelsea v Barcelona Champions League match ruffled a few feathers. That's good, I reckon. It's important that you fans get to hear the opinions of a top star, so you can really put your own views into focus.

I guess it's sort of like the dawn of the Universe. I mean, all you guys have a theory about it, right? But until Stephen Hawkins starts to write a blog on the subject, you're all really just stabbing wildly in the dark.

Thinking about it, you know, that's really the main purpose of what I do here for Soccernet. I help you guys, the fans, come to a decent opinion on the most important football matters of the week so that you repeat them to your mates in the pub and come across as really clued-up.

I actually take a bit of pride in being one of the few top Premier League stars happy to talk to fans about what really goes on and let you guys know what we're really thinking.

So many of the lads are scared, I guess, of speaking out, speaking their minds to the press and the fans. I don't really know why that is. I don't know what they think they have to lose.

Even my own agent has had a word with me a couple of times about this blog, telling me I should tone it down a bit, not reveal quite so much about what goes on and what my views are on things that happen.

You know what I told him? I told him to go shove it. As far as I can see, there is nothing in my £25k-a-week contract that says I can't tell all those PhBell fans out there exactly what is going on in the crazy world of the Premier League.

And I tell you what, even if Didier Drogba gets the book thrown at him by UEFA for his outburst after the Champions League last week, I still won't stop keeping it real in this blog.

There's just no way that a footballer should be punished for letting the world know his opinions. What, are we supposed to just not say a word, to anyone, about anything? Surely that's against our human rights?

It's not like we're living in Iraq or Afghanistan or Dubai here: this is England, this is the Premier League. Isn't there a thing called freedom of speech, or something, written into the constitution of this country?

There has been talk about Drogba getting a six-month ban, Shouldn't the Prime Minister have something to say about this? Tony Blair should be stepping in and supporting Drogba and me, the only two footballers about at the moment who are dedicated to Keeping It Real?

You know, sometimes, something happens in professional football that means it becomes more than just a game. Sometimes, football can represent life itself; it becomes a symbol for everything mankind struggles and fights against.

And at times like these, top professional footballers become more than just highly-toned, super-talented artists: sometimes, an important issue in our game can change a humble footballer like me into a true leader of men.

This campaign of mine to Keep it Real, I reckon it's my chance to make the world a better place. I feel like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King or Erin Brockovich, like I was chosen by some higher force to support the little man in his struggle against the "Powers That Be".

I expect I'll get a lot of stick from the lads at training, but I reckon someone has to stand up and have the strength to say what they think about the big issues. I'll take whatever punishment or abuse comes my way, because I know I am on the right side.

Mandela was put in prison for 27 years, Martin Luther King was assassinated; I'm prepared to risk a three-match ban and a small fine, if that's what it takes for me to keep speaking my mind.

So, fans, you can rest assured that, whether you agree with my opinions or not, I'll continue to use this Soccernet blog to Keep it Real, to keep you informed of what's really going on in the world of the Premier League.

Until next time, remember: I'm always on your side,

PB

HAHAH, great column again LOL. Fire your agent and get one that respects you. (Don't sign with Joorbachin please)

As for Drogba, it will be b/s if he gets a 6 month ban, but that should only be for Europe right? I understand how frustrated he was at the horrible calls, i was as well and i hate chelsea LOL. But he did say "are you watching this, this is a fucking disgrace" - i watched the replay twice to make sure i heard what he said, while all the papers widely circulated that he said directly to the ref "you are a f***** disgrace" which is not true and yet another sad case of media sensationalizing.

As for you, i don't see why writing a blog will be bad and you should be allowed to speak freely. Btw, you better trademark that Keepin It Real slogan cause otherwise the Real mob will come and take it off you as there new recruitment msg for Cristiano Ronaldo who according to the media seems destined to go to Madrid even though the player said that is over.

Dear PB,
Firstly,I am surprised you don't know your Prime ministers name!!! Its Mr. Gordon Brown and not Mr. Tony Blair. "Quote:" Shouldn't the Prime Minister have something to say about this? Tony Blair should be stepping in and supporting Drogba and me,"Unquote"
Secondly, how can you compare Dubai to Iraq and Afghanistan??? Dubai has total freedom of speech, I can vouch for it because I live here. Dunno abt the other 2 countries you mentioned, but arent they under the control of Yankees? Do you mean to say that Yankees do not support freedom of speech????
I guess, you got to get your facts right before clicknig on the "Post" button.

Amen Pherral!
Keep it real. no doubt. We're a brotherhood of true footballers. Live hard, play hard. Can you believe this rubbish ol' Arry Redknapp is trying to pull over here at Tottenham?!? No booze? is he havin a go?
much love, Ledley

Posted by Garmy on 05/12/2009

HAHA! Keeping it real! I like that :D

And I'm still cracking up at the reactions from some of the other readers in your previous posts.

Oh and by the way, tough luck on your loss to Newcastle. What was Southgate thinking not starting you? I'm pretty sure you would've prevented the 3 goals. Taylor was totally unmarked. Ok Martins' goal was pretty good, but Lovenkrands was like a man with the smallpox, or in today's context, a certain influenza, not a man within a mile's radius of him. I'm confident that you'd have braved the risks of breathing the same air he was breathing to prevent him from delivering the knock out blow.

If you get relegated are you still going to keep writing here? If no, I hope another club sees what a wise investment you would be, and enable you to remain in top-flight football.

Cheers.

Oh man, this is your best work to date, Pharrell. You name-dropped Stephen Hawking, Nelson Mandela, and Tony Blair in the same blog entry. Truly you are a genius even beyond your considerable footballing ability. Keep the opinions coming! That's why we read you!

Posted by pat on 05/12/2009

never again can a brit call an american ignorant or stupid. You don't even know who your own pm is. a few too many headers off of keepers' punts?

keep on keepin it real.

Posted by Nic Bendtner on 05/12/2009

Thanks for keepin it real. its tough to be one of the few footballers who isnt afraid to perpetually underperform but still have the guts to get smashed and walk around with my bunghole exposed to the spring air.

I swear this blog brings out the monkeys every week. I now realize that ESPN's readers consist mainly of clueless morons who have never heard of satire. I used to think Pharrell Bell's comments (well whoever is writing as this FICTIONAL character) was the best part of this blog, now I think the readers are the stars of this comedy

Posted by Chris on 05/12/2009

You're a make believe character. You can say whatever you want. Keep it real indeed.

The comments above mine are equally crap.

Posted by Alex on 05/12/2009

hello Pharrell Bell. i put my comment here for you from Belarus. Can you really imagine where it is situated? But i and couple of my friends read your blog
I would like if you post some story about foreing players in EPL. How do yuo think its quiet normal when Lpool plays Real with 5 spaniards in theres first 11 and arsenal con play with only Gibbs or Walcott in

Posted by Sharif on 05/12/2009

Iraq,Afghanistan,DUBAI. Man are u crazy? Dubai in same light as those two countries. Its only one of the richest AND most progressive arab nations.Should've expected from someone still stuck in 2007 if British PM is Blair. And yes they do not have 100 % freedom of speech but they make up for it in other ways. Soverign funds,Friendly neighbours, and NO INCOME TAX. so Phbell you are one of the reasons why we need control of the freedom speech thing.Someone having the column space to reach millions readers who doesn't do enough research to back up his claims...U guys are a plague to journalism. Damn soccernet. Hire someone entertaing and smart!

Posted by Arsene Wenger on 05/12/2009

I keep it real, real young. Yo P-Bell, you've got your finger to the pulse of the academys I'm sure. Do you know of any young lads between the ages of 9 and 14 who are looking for the guiding arm and priest-like tutelage of an experienced older gentlemen. Inability to speak english isn't a probelm, as I offer after hours free lessons in my study on weeknights.

Drogba told it like it was , the ref was a f***ing disgrace ! Uefa should try and find more qualified refs and imploy video technology before banning a player for an outburst of words. In the end it was just words and most ppl in his situations would have said the same thing. P.S if he gets a ban the ref should get 4 x the ban for the penalties he missed

Posted by PharrellPhan on 05/12/2009

Pharrell, I just don't know what to say. It's exactly like you said, I read your blog, then I go tell my mates what's what! Thank you for helping me put my views in focus!
I know you're a modest guy and all, but I think you're short-selling yourself. That Martin Luther guy was cool and stuff, but I think you're more like that Gandhi guy from the movie, except better, 'cause he wasn't a top footballer making $25K a week, and he had no fashion sense either. They'll probably make a movie about you someday.
Seriously, this was your BEST blog yet! Somebody should get an award.
Keep keepin' it real bro! Respek!

Posted by love phb on 05/12/2009

garmy,

pharell plays for the majestic redcastle, not the sinking middlesborough!

Posted by NoMotherFuckingName on 05/12/2009

Finally a top, top football star keepin' it real. Go on son!

As for Drogba, I can't stand Chelsea so I can only laugh at the way they went out. So, ha ha, you twats.

Yes, I know, I haven't added anything worthwile. Ah, well, neither has PhBell and he still gets to blog on the internet, why shouldn't I?

Seriously, keep on blogging Pharell, nice to see someone writing candidly from the inside.

Posted by Nickk~ on 05/13/2009

Hate to break it to you Bell, but the English constitution isn't written up. ;)

Posted by Rakesh on 05/13/2009

Cheers from the far side of the pond. I love the blog. I hope you do keep it real. I was wondering if you could tell us what you look for in a football match while watching. Do you watch the movement of the ball? Do statistics have any reasoning? What's the best way to be a connoisseur of the game?

Posted by RedDevilFan on 05/13/2009

Great stuff! Even if Boro get relegated (which is looking ever more possible by the game), I hope they keep you blogging here. If they don't, well, I suppose they could call the last blog you post here the "Bell end"...

Posted by Soccerao on 05/13/2009

Glory be!!!
Hail the Cult of Pharrell Bell! Keep the 'Bell'ogs, er...blogs flowing! We can't wait to swill more!
Lads, let's get REAL now. What goes down has to come up. And even if PB's team does a titanic, it's only a matter of time before they do a Phoenix. And it will be because of stars like PB, with their no-nonsense approach. Keep up the good work, Pharell!

Posted by AStrup on 05/13/2009

Maybe, just maybe, it was bad taste to bring up Mandela and Martin Luther King in this context...

Posted by dude on 05/13/2009

Haha, another good stuff from Mr. Bell.. excellent!

Also, absolutely right on the freedom of speech thing... this is England, not Malaysia or Indonesia or Singapore, hehehe...

Pharell Bell for (UEFA) President!

Posted by Sam Lewis on 05/13/2009

Ironic you talk about 'freedom of speech' when these comments are censored heavily to keep everyone from knowing this PB alias is just another soccernet reporter..This is the stupidest blogging ever - and I for one am ready to stop daily visits of Soccernet solely because of you - moron.

Posted by DamoAuz on 05/13/2009

Sorry PhB; no way you can compare yourself to Erin Brokovic; I've seen you in spandex (when I was one of 5000 fans to come to an open training session and you were trailing some skin-tight training gear you were about to sign you name to in a big $ endorsement)- It was like poking my minds-eye out with a spoon!!
That aside good blog, Mandella and Hawking would be rapped if they could ahve both the influence for change you're about to AND the health to go with it! hey, i guess some folks are just blessed.
Good on you for taking your God givens and making a difference for the better.
I reckon you and Drog's (and maybe Ledley?) could go round the pre-schools and teach kids reality; It'll put em in good standing to make it big in the real world.
peace big Bell.

Posted by Jim D'mass on 05/13/2009

Ha,I hope this doesn't happen!!Drogba out for six months for revealing the facts in an ugly manner? I guess if this was Chris Ron, he would get 1 match ban. What a waste UEFA could turn out to be.

Posted by jimmyjam on 05/13/2009

I don't know what is more fun. Reading the blog or the dumbass remarks some clueless readers leave. How dim can you get? Keep it up Pharell. Don't let the haters get to you. They're just jealous. It's not like they earn 25k a week and have scored twice as many goals as Giggs this season. Redcastle rocks!!! Hope you get to Europe next season and the gaffer plays you. Broke my heart seeing you on the bench while at boro.

Posted by Voice of Reason on 05/14/2009

"Isn't there a thing called freedom of speech, or something, written into the constitution of this country?"

No there isn't. The UK does not have a written constitution Unfortunately it's kind of an unwritten thing which means will still have to put up with the garbage you seem to spew out.

Do you actually make any point in this blog?

Posted by Raymond on 05/14/2009

who the heck is PhBell?
what a loser..
go hold hands with Drogba you nut...
keep it real you loser

Posted by anthony on 05/14/2009

I blame myself for reading this waste of time blog. Drogba should be banned for a year for intimidating and threatening the ref, leave alone what he said. Then he should be fined heavily for using foul language on live tv (more than once!) Freedom of speech doesn't supercede all other rights...

Posted by Michael on 05/14/2009

Tony Blair isn't the Prime Minister.
Drogba and Ballack get very bad press. Drogba and Ballack, I feel may have earned some sympathy for showing some passion and desire to win. I agree Drogba went overboard by swearing. But everything else he said was fine to me. He just summed up what all Chelsea fans were feeling and I am sure he will get a fantastic reception from the fans. The referee's performance was absolutely despicable and UEFA are to blame for appointing an inexperienced referee for the most explosive game of the competition. A game between two teams that has already claimed the career of one referee, UEFA appoint an official who has made high-profile blunders and been sanctioned for it. UEFA will hit Chelsea, Drogba and Ballack with heavy punishments to cover up UEFA's ineptitude. If they say it was not conspiracy, then release the referee's report to the public. People were suspicious BEFORE the Semis that UEFA would prevent the same two English teams reaching the Final.

Posted by GiggsS on 05/15/2009

UEFA Sucks, FA Sucks! Players have every right to speak their mind! Plus everyone knows the Chelsea vs Barca ref was out of it at the time.

Posted by Iceburn on 05/15/2009

This quote amused me ..
"Isn't there a thing called freedom of speech, or something, written into the constitution of this country?"

Correct me if i'm wrong, but as far as I can remember, the UK doesn't have a written constitution.

Posted by DisneysDreamDebased on 05/15/2009

Honestly Mufaddal, did you have a full frontal lobotomy at the same time as your sense of humor bypass?

Posted by Henrique on 05/16/2009

Tony Blair is not the PM....

How in the world do you not know that and still write for a large company such as ESPN?

This blog just lost all credibility.

Posted by ben on 05/16/2009

haahaha love your blog. however, comparing yourself to mlk jr. is a bit rich eh? I mean you're just a footballer. You play a game last I checked you weren't leading any civil rights movements.

Posted by james t. kirk on 05/17/2009

Dear Soccernet,

Exactly what the hell is going on in this blog?

Love,
JTK

Posted by Henry Dugay on 05/20/2009

Should there be a 6 months ban, there should be a revolt. lol

Posted by Tony Blair on 05/20/2009

Everybody with half a brain knows I'm no longer PM. That is the point behind the comment.

Posted by wickerman777 on 05/21/2009

He ought to spend some of that 25K GBP a week on newspapers or a private tutor to gain some respectful levels of intelligence

Posted by Sepp Blatter on 05/21/2009

You need to be silenced Bell. You are giving away to many secrets. I will talk to Platini and ask him to reprimand you and also advise him that you should be banned from a further 3 games for supporting Drogba who has brought UEFA Champions league to disrepute. It is my flagship tournament and second biggest source of income for my hedge funds after the FIFA world cup and I cannot have you ruin this.
