Kenwyne Jones has signed for Stoke City tonight for a club record fee of £8m. Pulis has been after Jones for years and much like a Canadian Mountie, today he finally got his man in a move that could kickstart many more.

For years now Stoke fans have talked for hours on end about the need for a 'Mama with goals' and in Kenwyne Jones, that is exactly what we now have. Jones is perfect for the Stoke style of play, and some may say that his signing perhaps illustrates that the style of play won't be changing any time soon, that said he is a lot more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Mama is, their relative goalscoring records are testament enough to this.

Stoke will be delighted with this capture and the fee of £8m represents somewhat of a coup with Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinn going on record last January to say he had turned down an offer worth £20m from Spurs - luckily Redknapp didn't stick his oar into this particular deal.

The feeling in Sunderland is mixed but the overall feeling is that their fans are sad to see him leave and even sadder at the prospects being lined up to fill his boots, such is the disappointment in some quarters that there is talk of protests against the Sunderland hierarchy.

However, It's exciting times for Stoke fans, there is talk of maybe another 1 or 2 players before the weekend and I think Jones signing could be not just the catalyst for better players deciding to come to Stoke but for the transfer window as a whole.

It is rumoured that Jones has been given the number 9 shirt and will be in the starting line up for Saturday's season opener at Wolves.
