As the heat in Madrid continues to rise so to do the rumours surrounding Real Madrid in the midst of the summer transfer window. Though Madrid have addressed certain concerns in the first couple weeks, the most interesting moves are still yet to come.

Hamit Altintop, the Turkish attacking midfielder who last played at the Bernabeu opposite Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan in the 2010 Champions League final, highlights what, for the time being, is a short list of new, young talent. In a campaign filled with speculation over Mourinho’s future, even in his first season in the Spanish capital, it seems the Portuguese manager is putting the pieces in place to create a Madrid of the future.

Jose Maria Callejon and Raphael Varane have joined Altintop as Mourinho’s new recruits. At 24 and 18, respectively, the mentality of the Madrid brass, or at least Jose Mourinho, has shifted from that of just the next season to the next decade of Los Blancos. At the three aforementioned players could possibly be just a small drop in the summer transfer bucket. Of course it is all to be taken with a grain of salt; Madrid’s perennial European contention, high profile manager and plethora of disposable income will always have the big names in the market linked to the Spanish capital.

It seems, accordingly to various sources, that the Neymar will headline this summer’s transfer season. The young Brazilian start has reportedly chosen Madrid over Barcelona and Chelsea, where it seemed he was destined to go only a few months ago; however, the 19-year-old prodigy will “respect his contract with Santos.” Will he move this summer? All signs point to yes and it seems that Madrid will be the ‘where to’ of the equation. Questions have been raised about his age (certain Brazilian football personalities think more time will be beneficial for his growth as a footballer) and how he will fit into Mourinho’s tactics (is the Portuguese manager too regimented? Will it suffocate his creativity?). When and if he does, Neymar will be the twenty-second Brazilian to join Los Blancos. Fernando Giudicelli was the first in 1935 and the twenty that have succeeded have been a wide variety of Brazilian marquee names with an assortment of successes (Roberto Carlos), disappointments (Kaka) and pleasant surprises (Marcelo). Where Neymar will fit on that list, only time will tell.

The futures of Fabio Coentrao, Maicon, Emmanuel Adebayor, Pepe, Sergio Ramos will, in one way or another, shape Madrid’s summer and therefore set the precedent for the coming season. Mourinho’s best success comes in his second year with clubs; if that patter is to continue, what Madrid does with the rest of the summer may be the difference in usurping the Spanish league from their Catalan rivals.

As Madrid move forward so too does this correspondent. I have had the pleasure of being the ESPN’s Real Madrid go between for the past two seasons but will, unfortunately, be signing off after this post. I wanted to take the last few lines to thank all of those who have contributed to this blog over that time period. The comments have sparked great debates and the criticisms have inspired me to continue improving weekly. Thank you, once again, to all the readers; Hala Madrid.

Are u guys serious in selling Pepe to Chelsea?.It will be the most regrettable mistake we will ever do in our transfer history.I mean, come on!!,why on earth should we sell the most active defender?.As a Madrid fan,I feel very comfortable when Pepe plays. For Naymar he will be good addition bc,he's soo talented. If he does not perform in he's first season, believe me,he will shine in he's second onwards.Hala Madrid,I leave u with success.

please dont sell sergio ramos he is a very strong defender.

This must be one of the worst written articles ever. How can he not mention that we got Nuri Sahin, the best player in bundesliga.

And Altintop is not a striker (he's a two way midfielder)and also already injured for the whole fall. There are not many fans counting on him whatsoever.

Seems to me that Madrid don't need more players to dethrone Barca, they need to get the players they have to work together more effectively. Piling on the transfers may not advance that cause, it might even hurt it.

Madrid already have all the talent any team could want. What made the difference last year was not that Barca had better players, but that the Barca players played more effectively as a team. I think it's possible for Madrid to take up that challenge, but I don't think they need more players to do it. They need to let the group of players they have really come together as a team. Hard to do that when you're constantly shuffling players in and out of the squad.

If we bring in Maicon, Ramos can go. I know sergio had a better season than Maicon, but I rate the Brazillian much higher.

If we lost Pepe, that would be a huge loss;what if Varane can't handle the heat? Albiol and Garay are liabilities.

Would rather Mou promote a cantera striker, and stick with benz/pipita, but Ade would be a good option if he is content being the third striker.

I hope Diarra stays, but Gago, Granero, and Leon can all leave.

madrid shud not sell Ramos n the team must play more often as a cohesive unit, long live Madrid

Real madrid should leave neymar for another season and sign aguero because he is a proven goal scorer. HALA MADRID

Posted by Indra Santosa on 07/05/2011

I agree with Steve. Madrid needs to develop their team in the perspective of more cohesion and effectiveness, rather than keep adding new players to their squad. Man for man, Madrid are just as strong as Barca. When they come to prices, perhaps Madrid players are much more expensive on the markets than Barca's. But soccer is NOT about how much a player is worth. It is about TEAM-WORK. And on this front, Barca is one level higher than any team at the moment.. Madrid included.

I think mourIho need to try by all
means to sing neymar.

Marcelo a pleasant surprise? For whom?

Last year he was perhaps the single deciding factor in RM's CL season, when Barcelona's Afellay went right by him and fed Messi for the 0-1 goal in the first leg of the CL semifinal. The year before he was so bad at defending in the 6-2 Clasico loss that Pellegrini tried to move him up to midfield. RM will never win with Marcelo at LB.

And his delight when helping Tottenham to a red card was unprofessional and frankly embarrassing.

I also just started following this blog and if someone doesnt take it over I will Love to.

Real Madrid have all the ingredients of champions and Mourinho has shown all the markings of a coach capable of reproducing the Galacticos hopefully those signs will shine through in his second season here.

The best example of brazilian success you could come up with was roberto carlos (dont get me wrong he was a beast)? How about Ronaldo (obviously, the brazilian one)

Posted by Anubhav on 07/05/2011

I also agree with steve, in this moment real have the most strongest squad and i feel adding more players will alternately affect the team work of the present squad. I fell mourinho should stick to the present team and imprv.... the TEAM WORK

It's important for players to be able to play together as a team, but bring in new players help out with competing between players which makes everyone better. Pepe is a great player and i would not like to see him go, but people often over look that his aggression some times gets the best of him, doesn't anyone remember him stomping on that player a few years ago? Sergio for me can make me so mad at a Madrid fan he plays RB, but in his head he thinks he is a winger. his defense is suspect at many times and he only scored 2 goals last year. if we really want to keep Sergio we should sign Macion and move Sergio to CB where he would be forced to defend, also Sergio is a problem in the locker room, any Madrid fan know he's has a huge ego possibly the biggest on the team. Neymar would be a great signing, but i do believe he's more of a player for the future than to fix our current problems. I'm a Brasilian and love him, but who spot would Neymer take? There's just not enough room

Posted by Luiz on 07/05/2011

Also I think Alonso is overrated. In no way am I saying he's not a great player, but in my eyes he has never been close to the player he was at liverpool and the thing i notice the most is he used to have one of the most beautiful long passes in the whole world, but i haven't seen anything like that in a long time! he also doesn't score those few long goals a season

Posted by sammie on 07/05/2011

no coach's arrival at any club has ever been heralded globally like Mourinho's arrival at the bernabau...the reason is so simple..he's the special one. he is known for his mastery of the tactical aspect of the game and a great player manager. He is a charismatic leader, every player that has played under him at any point can testify to that. As he starts his second season in spain, I think he is going to build a stronger team, this is going to be his first real chance to building his own team(the team he used last year was majorly inherited from pellegrini). Mourinho can be trusted with making good signings no matter how weird it could look. remember eto- ibrahimovic with a seemingly spent eto winning champions league with him! Mourinho has never been really known for signing superstars and he has always delivered with his method...as or me i trust him to sell and buy the right players to building a more success driven team

i think selling should have been the worst made in madrid last two season wesley sniegder was sold to inter milan and when up and treble with inter including champion league trophy pepe is a player that can play in every position his strong, flexible, fast and defences, and also lass should be keep as backup role thanks special one madridista for lifeences, and also lass should be keep as backup role thanks special one madridista for life
