Madrid continued their rebound from the El Clasico drubbing a fortnight ago with another convincing league win at struggling Zaragoza. The Aragon based club may not be the most stringent of competition but wins against a stubborn Valencia side and the conclusion of their Group Stage campaign with a 4-0 thrashing of Auxerre have restored some life into the Beranbeu. Two points behind their Catalan rivals, Madrid and Barcelona are beginning to pull away from the pack as the La Liga looks to, yet again, become a two horse race.
Awaiting their European fate on Friday, Madrid have to be confident in seeing out the domestic title race to its end with the revitalized play of some of their out-of-favour substitutes. Karim Benzema’s treble lead the way during their midweek Champions League fixture with the maligned France international pestering the Zaragoza defence Sunday night. Though the Frenchman did not put his name on the score sheet, his presence was felt through runs like the one that drew both centre backs away from the ball, allowing Marcelo the space to play a brilliant ball onto a streaking Mesut Ozil, the Germany star giving the visitors an early lead that they would not relinquish.
Current form aside, it still is of vital importance that Madrid find some help at the top in the January transfer window. Gonzalo Higuain’s injury problems (he has a knack for scoring but is not the menacing threat at the front that clubs such as Barcelona or Chelsea posses) coupled with Benzema’s unpredictability is not a combination a team, with their sights set on Europe, need as their striking options. Carlos Tevez’s constant City quit announcements have gossip spreading throughout Cafes in the capital, though; it is rumoured that if the Argentina international leaves England, it will be for home (though Spain and Italy have come up in conversation as well). Real Madrid are a great team, however, it is a player like Tevez up top that would make them an exceptional team.

As the January window quickly approaches, the question that remains is whether or not Jose Mourinho will make any moves to bolster the side. There is no question they have the talent to win the league, but Madrid did not hire Mourinho to only win domestically. The Champions League is the end goal, and Los Blancos may still be missing a piece or two of the puzzle if they hope to raise the trophy at Wembley come May. Madrid’s defence has improved leaps and bounds since a year ago; nevertheless, Marcelo is not the strongest defender and Carvalho’s injury history is of worry as the season wares on. A strong centre back could do wonders while true defending help on the wings wouldn’t hurt either (both Marcelo and Ramos are fantastic going forward but their defensive skills raise questions at times). Ultimately, it will come down to what Mourinho has up his sleeves. Madrid have the talent and depth to make a run at a European title but winning it is another matter. Humbled in Catalonia a fortnight ago, Madrid have quickly recovered and are back to playing superb football, but is it the best football in Europe?
The form of Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo also deserves mention. Ronaldo’s brace was the difference against a young Valencia side with the Portugal star scoring midweek and from a brilliantly taken free kick, doubling the visitors lead before half, at Zaragoza. His attitude has been attacked (and rightfully so at points), leadership and sportsmanship questioned; however, it will be Ronaldo who leads Madrid to either glory or disappointment come May. Say what you want about the man, but he is a world-class footballer, and it has been his form this year that has Madrid with only one defeat through mid-December. Real Madrid are not a one man team by any stretch (watch Madrid’s third from Sunday, Xabi Alonso plays an inventive ball through to connect with a perfectly timed Angel di Maria run), but Cristiano is the x-factor. It will be interesting to see if he can either: a) maintain his absurd form throughout the year or b) if no, how will Madrid react and compensate for a slump (hoping of course that the disaster in Barcelona is not an example of what happens when CR9 struggles)?
Friday’s Champions League draw could produce some interesting match-ups for Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid. A potential reunion with the Portuguese coach and the side he lead to European glory only seven months ago or current Premier League leaders Arsenal make up a third of Los Blancos’ potential Round-of-16 competition (the others being: Marseille, Roma, FC Copenhagen, and Lyon, who knocked out Madrid at this stage last year). With only next week’s fixture against plummeting Sevilla remaining in 2010, focus will quickly turn to what lies ahead both domestically and in Europe.

It'd serve the team well to bring in a couple of players come January (striker & left-back / right-back). But getting an all-out striker is the single most important problem to solve right now. C. Tevez has the required potentials - and may even slot perfectly well in Madrid's system - his explosive attitudes need to be considered as that would likely bring an irreparable discord between him & coach should that really happen. Also, the team should continue their winning ways as their fate of winning the league still lies with them.
As for conquering Europe, the draws on Friday should reveal the path that would need to be paved to achieve that feat. A feat I think would be made relatively easy with JM at the helm.
Winning the remaining 2 mathes for the month of Dec (league match against Sevilla & 1st leg Cup match against Levante) should be what's on the agenda of the team right now.
Madrid would do pretty well this season.
Hala Madrid!

Tevez, he's the one madrid is searching for as a striker

I totally agree with the fact that Real Madrid needs a deadly striker like Tevez, this would be a boost for the team also, with a strong left back to replace Marcelo(who is not a left back).
I think with the inclusion of these two players only then can Real Madrid stage a fight for both Champions League and La Liga.

I honestly agree with everyone that Tevez is the type of striker Madrid need to put up a fight against Barcelona in the League and in Europe although I don't see him as a solution to all of Madrid's problems. I am also very excited about the return of Kaka and feel that he would mesh well with Ozil in the midfield. And for those who doubt the skills of the Brazilian maestro, they should look back to last years 1-0 defeat at the Camp Nou to Barca. He was the man of the match no doubt. He made a joke of Barca's defense (the same defense we even see today) and made great plays that helped set up CR9 (back then now CR7 again) which were not capitalized. Now with Kaka back in midfield with Ozil this adds more depth to Madrid's roster and the inclusion of Tevez would only make it that much stronger. As for a new fullback, I would like to see someone with the qualities of Michel Bastos or a Gareth Bale type of player although neither is available for transfer. This would all help Madrid win.

I think Real madrid should appreciate Las diarra (more experienced and better than khedira) and Alonzo in the defensive mid, then allow the rotation of Kaka and Ozil playing infront of the two 4s (playing double 4 and a 10; a reliable pattern for jose morinho than double 10 and a 4). Abeloa is more defensive than Ramos if real cant sign new right full back; Ashley cole plays like macelo, hence he is not the best option.Madrid should look for more defensive leftback comes january. They should look for a fighter in front( like tevez)who will majorly assist CR7 in scoring more goals, as we all know CR7 is a phenomenon;he is always everywhere on the pitch to score. He is not assigned a top striker. If these can be done quickly, i am sure we will overcome Barca rule the world again...

well,i think that madrid should fetch antonio cassano as a striker tevez is explosive but not fit for madrid..more over they need at least two strong defenders..sergio ramos is a good winger rather than a defender and khederia should be on bench.he is not player of such a class to play at madrid.if madrid wants a good player than they should get gareth bale at any cost.

wonder why all people here talking about buying. i believe we should dig inside and try to play with some youth. madrid already have one of the largest squad, if not the largest. even lass, gago couldnt even make to the bench at times. yes, im well aware this topic is about a striker, but u guys get the idea. if not, all we gonna here is about how awesome la masia is.

i think Madrid should look at strikers like Fernando Llorente or Edin Dzeko. These two have the physical presence that can allow them to hold the ball and make plays with other players like CR7 ,Di Maria and Ozil. Tevez is a good striker but i think he is not much different from the dimension provided by Higuain plus he is not stable in terms of discipline. Llorente for me is the best striker to go for. as for Marcelo i honestly think he has slightly improved defensive wise this season and provides a good attacking flair on his flank but a more defensive left back like Evra ,Lahm or Bastos could be better . the right full back has one of the best in Sergio Ramos. Well i think the Centre back position need adjustments, maybe try the combination of Albiol and Pepe because Carvalho's lack of pace result in him giving away too many freekicks sometimes especially against tougher oppositions.i wonder how Mourinho will handle Ozil and Kaka who play the same position.
