The Rangers Hall of Fame was set up by Sir David Murray back in 2000 to honour the clubs past and modern day greats who have helped make Rangers Football Club the huge success it is today.
What’s so special about the Rangers Hall of Fame is that it’s the fans who vote every year on who should be elected to this elite member’s only club.
The criteria for nominations are based on;
Service to the club;
Number of games played;
Honours won;
International caps;
And Exceptional ability.
Author, shareholder, season ticket holder and Rangers fan Bob MacCallum’s ‘Hall of Fame’ charts the clubs history and Rangers top players from its inception back in 1872 to the present era. Each chapter gives a detailed account of the player in question from footballing abilities, success on the pitch to personality traits as well as a portrayal of the Manager at the time.
An enthralling read for any Rangers or Scottish football fan as it gives an insight into the how the club was conceived through the ideas and vision of four youngsters namely Peter and Moses McNeil, Peter Campbell and William McBeath right through to modern day achievements of the club both in a socio-political context and on the pitch.
A truly fascinating and educating account of eras gone by too which include greats such as John Grieg, Sandy Jardine, Jim Baxter and Derek Johnstone, players who I have only ever heard great stories about from my father and uncles alike.
I particularly enjoyed reading the Graeme Souness era onwards as that’s when I first began to take an interest in Scottish football. Only a bairn at the time myself, it brought back many childhood memories of watching the likes of Ally McCoist, Ian Durrant, Ray Wilkins, Ian Ferguson, Richard Gough, John ‘Bomber’ Brown, Mark Hateley et al.
Every generation of Rangers fan will have their own ‘special’ chapter or era that they will relate too, however this book crosses the generations from father to son and gives you a true history of the club, its origins and an honest profiling of special players that have helped make Rangers the club they are today.
Bob MacCallum’s ‘Hall of Fame’ is a super combination of historical events with a masterful and honest storytelling of players that have helped make Glasgow Rangers Football Club the institution it is today. Carefully selected pictures throughout the book all adds to the time line and sense of history in each era.
With Christmas just round the corner this book is definitely one for the ‘Rangers family’ and will make an ideal present for grand fathers/mothers, fathers/mothers to sons and daughters.
