Ten weeks down, 28 to go and time to see which Fantasy players are justifying their salary, which players should be considered as bargain replacements and what players do you want when the second half of Fantasy season begins.

Here is a list of players who are the most expensive, the players who have the most Fantasy points, and those players who are the best value for the money:

Goal Keepers:
Most expensive: Hart, Manchester City, 8.5 million, 47 points
De Gea, Manchester United, 8.1 million, 49 points

Most points:
Vorm, Swansea, 52, 5.8 million
De Gea, Manchester United, 49

Best bargains:
Vorm, Swansea, 52 points, 5.8 million
Krul, Newcastle, 42 points, 5.6 million

Defenders:
Most expensive:
Kompany, Manchester City, 8.5 million, 44 points
Terry, Chelsea, 8.4 million, 50 points
Vidic, Manchester United, 8.1 million, 7 points
Luiz, Chelsea, 8 million, 7 points
Cole, Chelsea, 8 million, 31 points

Most points:
Terry, 50
Kompany, 44
Williams, Swansea, 44, 6.0 million
Enrique, Liverpool, 43, 6.5 million
Warnock, Aston Villa, 43, 6.4 million

Best bargains:
Williams, Swansea
Olsson, WBA, 40 points, 6.2 million
Dunne, Aston Villa, 37 points, 5.4 million
Enrique, Liverpool
Warnock, Aston Villa

Midfielders:
Most expensive:
Van dar Vaart, Tottenham, 9.5 million, 62 points
Nani, Manchester United, 8.8 million, 56 points
Mata, Chelsea, 8.6 million, 43 points
Lampard, Chelsea, 8.1 million, 65 points
Silva, Manchester City, 7.8 million, 67 points

Most points:
Silva, Manchester City, 67
Lampard, Chelsea, 65
Dempsey, Fulham, 61, 6.3 million
Larsson, Sunderland, 54, 6.9 million
Murphy, Fulham, 52, 6.8 million

Best bargains:

Dempsey, Fulham
Larsson, Sunderland
Murphy, Fulham
Bradley Johnson, Norwich City, 45, 5.7 million
Stiliyan Petrov, Aston Villa, 44, 5.5 million

Strikers:
Most expensive:
Van Persie, Arsenal, 9.6 million, 69 points
Rooney, Manchester United, 8.6 million, 64 points
Dzeko, Manchester City, 8.4 million, 61 points

Most points:
Van Persie, 69
Aguero, Manchester City, 68, 8.1 million
Rooney, 64

Best bargains:
Agbonlahor, Aston Villa, 6.7 million, 46 points
Graham, Swansea, 6.4 million, 41 points
Adebayor, Tottenham, 6.3 million, 40 points

Considering a roster of two goal keepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three strikers:
The 15 most expensive players will cost 127 million and their points total 722
The 15 highest scorers will cost 112.8 million and their points total 825
The 15 best bargains will cost 92.5 million and their points total 683

Currently, the leading Fantasy manager in the world has 699 points, which means the team of best bargains at 683 would rank 4th in the world and there would still be 7.5 million under the 100 million budget cap.

Good luck and keep your eye out for those bargain point-producers.

Yours faithfully,
Sir John

With all due respect and with appreciation for the amount of math that went into this, these comparisons are not really accurate or fair. You have added up the total points for all 15 members of the squad while only 11 of them play in a given week. I re-totaled the score for your most-expensive team, averaging the points per position, and got 525.6 points. But to compare that score to any score achieved in the course of the fantasy game is still inaccurate because it fails to account for captains. If you assume that players will captain one of the strikers, then that will increase the striker score by 50% and the total score goes up to 590 pts. That is not a very good score, especially since you are 27 million over budget.

Thanks for your response to my study. Your view is valid. I should have mentioned the captain double point factor.
Of course a manager can only get points from 11 players each week; however, my intention was to show that you don't need big name and expensive players to do well.
I wouldn't assume that I automatically captain one of the strikers. In fact, I try to have a midfielder as captain to get the additional two points for a goal and a possible two points if there is a clean sheet.
Best,
Sir John

Any chance you can get ESPN Premier Fantasy to correctly score the competition?

Robin Van Persie got 2 assists & 1 goal v West Brom!

Poor scoring by the moderators is crippling this competition and making it a joke!

_____

I will make your concern known. All I know is that the moderators are different from the people who run Gamecast.

In answer to your question, this from ESPN's Dale Johnson:

I’m afraid Gervinho flicked the ball on for one of the goals.
