Here is a look at two starting XI’s from head to toe with height and fantasy points:
Shortest XI:
Goalkeeper:
Given, Aston Villa: 6 feet, 36 points
Defenders:
Fabio, Manchester United: 5’ 7”, 3 points
Baines, Everton: 5’7”, 30 points
Shorey, WBA: 5’7”, 24 points
Midfielders:
Lennon, Tottenham: 5’5”, 7 points
Shawn Wright-Philips, QPR: 5’6”, 22 points
Silva, Manchester City: 5’7”, 64 points
Mata, Chelsea: 5’7”, 31 points
Strikers:
Defoe, Tottenham: 5’6 ½, 26 points
Aguero, Manchester City: 5’7”, 62 points
Hernandez, Manchester Union: 5’9”, 29 points
Tallest XI:
Goalkeeper:
Cech, Chelsea: 6’5”, 23 points
Defenders:
Mertesacker, Arsenal: 6’6”, 20 points
Hangeland, Fulham: 6’4 ½, 28 points
Samba, Blackburn: 6’4”, 21 points
Midfielders:
Fellaini, Everton: 6’4 ½, 21 points
Toure, Manchester City: 6’3 1/2”, 38 points
Mikel Obi, Chelsea: 6’2”, 19 points
Gareth Bale: 6’, 32 points
Strikers:
Crouch, Stoke: 6’7”, 27 points
Adebayor, Tottenahm: 6’3”, 37 points
Dzeko, Manchester City: 6’3”, 55 points
Carlos Tevez with just two fantasy points would be listed in the shortest category; however, he is long on major attitude problems and relegated to Manchester City’s persona non grata, so he does not make this list.
As you can see from the above information there is no reason for fantasy managers looking for an edge to go exclusively for short or tall players. In fact, if you take the top point-getters for each position regardless of height, your starting XI would total only 437 points; a very average showing and about the 66th percentile.
Finding the right combination of players to win your fantasy play each week continues to be research and the old standby: blind luck.
Until later I remain,
Yours faithfully,
Sir John
