Portsmouth

I saw Sherlock Holmes on Boxing day, that doesn't mean I'm a super sleuth. Although, it doesn't require one to figure out who the "mystery player" was that slammed Pompey's management. C'mon David James, come out from behind your newspaper column.

Now, obviously I have no way of know exactly who made the comments. But I can guess. For example, if a six year old (David James) hears that he's going to get some sweets (a transfer to Tottenham) and then doesn't, obviously he's going to throw a bit of a hissy fit.

That's understandable, but what escapes me is the complete 180 David James has taken. A year ago he was chastising his teammates for playing for a transfer. And now he's doing everything short of actually punching Avram Grant in the gut and leaving the club.

Again, I'll admit that I have no idea who made those comments, so if it wasn't David then I have a problem with two people. Firstly, David James. Would you just go already? It's bad enough that the owners are apparently disposable and that Soccernet is paying me more than Pompey are paying their players. We don't need a washed up Ex-England keeper/diva whining and throwing temper tantrums every time he doesn't get his way. You're supposed to be a leader to these lads, and you are failing miserably. The best option for us at this point is to cut our losses and send you packing.

Secondly, (assuming whoever slammed the management isn't David James) Who are you? What exactly are you trying to accomplish with those comments? What good are you doing the club by burning the management? No one gets points for having good owners, no one has ever been promoted because the club president was a good guy. You (mystery player) are the one who wins points. Do you think that the pay is better in the Championship? Shut up and play. Save all this extra-curricular junk for the off season.

I apologise for ranting and raving, but I am very dissatisfied with the way the players are handling themselves. I realise that things are stressful at the club, but there is no need to be a drama queen. To sum up, David James, you have to earn my respect. Again. Also, I think that you are the one who made those comments, if it was, then be a man and own up to it. If it wasn't you, then who ever it was, same message. Play up, Pompey. Pompey, play up.

I don't think it is David James. More likely to be one of the older players more recently signed. In that the inference is unclear why it is happening. James knows the situation, and has remarked before in his column about it. He has remained anonymous and so it is pure guesswork on whoever it may be. I think your remarks are flawed and badly timed if it is not David James and he is thinking "why should I stay at Pompey?"

This is ridiculous. Seeing as everyone is attacking the board and our Chief Executive don't you think the players have enough speculation and bad press to deal with without writing articles like this. You're obviously not a real Portsmouth fan.

Rumours suggest that it was probably Hermann. He's a PFA representative for the team.

While James has remained unprofessional, it's best to be sure in these situations.

I don't blame the players for acting the way they are. It is difficult for all of them, particularly the youth and those on low money.

What the player is trying to do for the club is send a message that Ali Al Mirage isn't running the club successfully and we need proper management.

He's also sending a message to the FA and Premier League that they allowed this joke of an owner to own a club he couldn't afford and that essentially, this is partially their fault.

I agree the comments aren't at all helpful for the image of the club, but the club's image was tattered long before this man spoke out.

Oh I see, PompeyWebb. Because I want the players to stop focusing on the crap and instead play the freaking game I'm not a real Portsmouth fan? Is that it? So, tell me, what do I have to do? Do I have to include the words Pompey or Portsmouth in my screen name? Or maybe in order to be a real fan I have to be happy with the fact that my club is sinking and doesn't show any sign of turning it around. Please, PompeyWebb. Tell me, what qualification do have that makes you more of a Portsmouth supporter? Is it your replica strips you wear to the pub? Or is it the Pompey Chimes that ring whenever you get an SMS? Let me know, because I'm interested to hear your take on that.

You know what, it doesn't even matter who said this to me. The fact of the matter is that the squad is definitely frustrated. And who wouldn't be? How would you feel if you worked your tail off at your job and then when it comes down to it, your paycheck doesn't come when its supposed to? And think about the staff and the academy players who are getting the shaft too. My point is that EVERYONE (Fans, management, players) is frustrated.

I do understand your perspective Ben, but Al Faraj, Al Fahim and Gaydamak ALL deserve WHATEVER they have coming to them in terms of criticism. To be quite honest, just claiming that they "mismanaged" the situation from the top is a little bit of an understatement if you ask me. I'm surprised this "someone" wasn't more rash when talking about them actually. ALL of the players are frustrated, I can guarantee you that much. So now that someone from the team speaks out against the clowns we have as owners, he should be chastised?

Everyone is frustrated with the lack of results, the lack of money, the lack of TRANSPARENCY that the club is carrying on with, everything. I understand that these matters should be taken care of behind closed doors, but I am just absolutely sick and tired of hearing the latest fiasco with Pompey through the media grapevine. NOT ONCE has Ali Al Faraj stepped into the public eye to even ACKNOWLEDGE that he owns this team or his plans for them. Hell, this dude could end up being a fictional character and we would never know it. And NOT ONCE have we heard any kind of information directly from PFC officials. They have constantly told us that they will update us as information becomes available to them, but when has that happened recently? I can recall one occasion where they refuted the fact that we were going under administration about 2 months ago, but THAT IS IT. The lack of transparency within the club is the main source of my frustration to be honest.

and I agree 100% with Oscar. Its not like this statement is going to hurt the club's image. He's right, we have been the laughing stock of the football world all season, and enough is enough. Even people who know NOTHING about football know about Portsmouth and their financial woes. Thats how bad it has gotten. And to be honest, I dont think this is going to become a distraction in the locker room either. With all of the distractions the players have had all season, I doubt someone speaking up and voicing their feelings and opinions is going to be a distraction or hurt team morale or chemistry. If anything, it may be a relief that their feelings are out there now. The players will play the game, they have too much pride and competitive spirit to just lay down and die, even if they aren't paid on time. Even cynics can agree that they would at the very least play for their own good to look more attractive to other clubs. IMO this means nothing, its just telling us what we already knew.

I dont know if any of you can remember the 1-2 home defeat to spurs earlier this season.
David James clearly dosn't want to be at Portsmouth when we scored our goal, James was stonefaced, no expression of delight, no emotion, nothing. The writing on the wall he is known as a bit of a drama queen and the sooner he Foxtrot Oscars the better. The other rant I want to get off my chest is the lack of passion in the home support this season, What has happened to fortress fratton, is it the realization that our core fans no longer attend matches, they have been driven out by price increases, as the fans that sit near me now seem to have a memory that lasts about 6 years, obviously I dont want us to get relegated, administration would rather be avoided too, but i tell you this, if by wiping off our debt and going down a division means Pompey get back to being Pompey .....Is that a bad thing?

I have nothing that makes me a better fan. Who knows, I'm willing to admit that maybe I am not as good a fan as you are Ben, but that still doesn't make you a respectable fan either. I'm just doing what I can to support the team, rather than calling them names and possibly insighting more anger amongst them. Imagine if a player read your message and started to beleive it was James, he could then take it out on James and bring morale down even more. That doesn't seem very clever to me. It obviously does to you though.
