Portsmouth
Posted by Ben Smith on 08/16/2009

The boss called for the takeover that has dominated the summer headlines on the South coast to end. And I for one am standing with Paul on this one. This needs to be resolved now.

Portsmouth has a history of which it can be proud. We boast FA cup wins, First Division titles and a host of legendary players like Duggie Reid and Pete Harris. Just over a year ago we were FA Cup champions. And now? 4 out of 4 people in The Soccernet Premier League Preview picked us to drop to the Championship. It has become apparent that the rest of the league rates us along Championship sides, and what stings the most about this? They're probably right.

I don't mean to gang up on my team but it was a largely frustrating performance today against Fulham. Paul Hart like I said earlier has called for this takeover drama to end now. Ironically enough when the final whistle blew tonight I said those exact words. Pompey supporters around the world have been watching and waiting for the headline that wouldn't guarantee success but would at least bring stability to a club that so desperately needs it. Weeks ago it looked as if the takeover was all but finished, but no. Something isn't going the way it should.

And so we are forced to sit and wait hoping that some sort of consistency will be brought to the back rooms of Fratton Park. We sit and read about the latest player to leave or listen to rumours swirling about Paul Hart's future even with his two year contract.

The Portsmouth we saw today is not the Portsmouth we can be, and when May rolls around I believe we will have proved the pundits wrong. Pompey has quality, I know that, you should know that and Paul Hart certainly knows that. But this club will not reach its full potential until the current situation is resolved. No time like the present Mr. Fahim so act quickly. Portsmouth's pride is at stake.

regarding Ben Smiths' comments. Yes, pompey has been a great club in the past, but that was in the distant past.He states that we have quality, this is not so, we have sold any quality that we had. Ever since Rednapp left, we have skidded downhill to become another sorry looking outfit. After our disastrous start to the season[0-3] it would be difficult to believe that Mr. Fahim would chase good money after bad! However, I must try to remain optomistic, and say play up pompey, pompey play up.

Portsmouth football club, my club for the past 59 years, is stuck with the same problem all the clubs have. Nobody believes in attacking and putting at least 4 people up front. Rely on your fullbacks and halfbacks and great goalie to defend, Hoe many times is the ball cleared forward and there is no player past the half way line. This every body attacks and everybody defends situation is stupid. The beautiful game it is NOT.
