It's been a week since the bottom fell out of Sulaiman al-Fahim's bid to buy Portsmouth. Or so it seemed. After seven days of rampant speculation linking a number of suitors to Pompey including Peter Storrie, Big Foot and myself, Mr. Fahim is apparently back on the right track.
Or so it seems. According to the guys at espnsoccernet.com, Sulaiman al-Fahim has told everyone that it's a done deal.
My reaction? Whatever. Who cares? Big deal.
Maybe this would have been good news six weeks ago, maybe even a month ago. But now it seems all we have is a rich doctor (or so it seems) who can't make opening day on time, let alone complete a buyout that started months ago. Forgive me for not queuing up to get my new home shirt with "Fahim" across the back.
Obviously I don't know everything about the situation I'll be the first to admit it. But I don't think a delayed and painfully drawn out saga about the future of the club exactly sends a message of confidence to the squad, the supporters or future players. It seems that someone more committed to the club would've done everything in their power to finish this ridiculous parade before the season started.
Case in point: Peter Storrie was widely expected to complete the buy-out this week. Not two months from now, not after three consecutive defeats to open the season, this week.
I am extremely disappointed at how this played out. And as far as I'm concerned, Mr. Sulaiman al-Fahim will have to earn my respect and support. He will have to show me that he is as committed to this club as I am, and not by flooding us with money. But by showing up at matches on time, along with well thought out signings and bringing in the top class backroom staff that this club deserves.
Not that I don't have faith in him, but I refuse to blindly accept his credentials. In short he has to prove himself worthy of this club. And expect that will be a heck of a job.

I must admit I thought the day would never come. But I will wait and see how it all pans out. With just a few days till the transfer window shuts and the deal is not officially announced. Hopefully some money comes in so the juniors don't have to get thrown into the premier league to cover for injuries, or players that are sold off. I'm hoping our squad will find a few new faces and the spirit around the club will stay strong. After the mass exodus from the sinking ship I am hoping we have plugged the holes and can get this club back where it should be, the top half of the premier league and hopefully another go in Europe. We are only three games into the season, one of the losses was to a big 4 team where points are tough to find so all is not lost just yet. A few wins and a few signings and this season could still end with a booking for European Football. Was very nice to get a win on the board during the week, even if it was against a low standard team.

Your skepticism is well-merited, Ben. I see Pompey is finally bringing some players in, which is a relief because Portsmouth looked pretty woeful in its start to the Prem.
It'll be interesting to see where Pompey is in the table come Boxing Day.

It makes no difference who owns the club.
Pompey should of had a new ground 30 years ago.
Until you have a Fratton Park that holds fifty thousand, Pomey are not going anywhere.
I blame the Portsmouth city council and the lack of support from its residents.
Portsmouth city council, you are a bunch of white suit scum.
