Paper Round

Darren Bent's embracing of the latest in internet crazes - though it's probably old hat to you hip cats - is making the headlines across the board. Bent's use of Twitter to have a blast at Daniel Levy over the protraction of his desired move to Sunderland has caused much amusement, though perhaps not to laughing-boy Levy or indeed Bent's agent.

Both The Sun and The Mirror lead off on this tale of silly boy playing with his toys.

Xabi Alonso's handing in of a transfer request is another big story with The Guardian's estimable Sid Lowe describing how Liverpool's wantaway midfielder has done Real Madrid's bidding in asking for the move. Now for the negotiation. The Times says Real have braced themselves for more disappointment despite making an improved £28million offer for the Spain midfield player.

The Mirror suggests that Rafa Benitez is holding out for £30m.

Arsene Wenger meanwhile has a huge amount of money burning a hole in his pocket but doesn't want to spend it, screams The Daily Star.

One club spending big are Manchester City, always in the news. Their latest chase is for Joleon Lescott. That's annoyed Everton, including Phil Neville, who tells the Daily Mail that City are trying to steamroller the move. The Telegraph joins many others in predicting, not particularly bravely, that Manchester's Blues will be back in for the England defender.

Meanwhile, Mark Hughes' press conference comments about not letting other managers play mind games with him have been connected with Sir Alex Ferguson, in the Guardian, and elsewhere to Martin O'Neill.
