Paper Round

John Terry - who else? - dominates the morning agenda after agreeing to stay with Chelsea. Having put us all out of our misery, JT looks like he's won a new contract; wonders never cease. The Daily Mail suggests that he won't be getting the £250k a week that Manchester City supposedly offered for him but that he's going to have to settle for a mere £150k. How will he survive?

City are now in for Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott, say The Times.

The Mail carries a rare piece of transfer gossip in saying that Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce wants Zenit St Petersburg striker Pavel Pogrebnyak for Blackburn as a replacement for Roque Santa Cruz, which looks like a decent deal to these eyes if it comes off.

Aston Villa seem to have won the battle for Sylvain Distin but the fee remains a sticking point. Portsmouth want £4m, while Villa want to pay £2.5m. Liverpool may yet be waiting in the wings. That's in the Daily Express.

South African midfielder Steven Pienaar could be quitting Everton, say the Mail. He's not happy with his new contract offer and Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina are circling.

Peter Crouch is set for Spurs, say The Sun. £13m is the fee and it seems Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has again been found wanting at the negotiating table. The Guardian disagrees, saying Harry Redknapp is pessimistic about sealing the deal.

The Mirror meanwhile says that David Beckham is set to head to Milan rather than his rumoured return to the Premier League.
