John Terry's proposed move to Manchester City rumbles on in the Sunday newspapers following the Chelsea skipper's crisis talks with Blues owner Roman Abramovich last night.
The News of the World report that Terry stopped short of handing in an official transfer request but the central defender is determined to speak with City officials over the proposed move
Terry, 28, will be offered £280,000 a week plus a £5m signing-on fee if Chelsea accept City's £40m offer.
If the England captain does head to Eastlands, Chelsea will replace him with Newcastle's England Under-21 centre-back Steven Taylor, according to the Sunday Express. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 23-year-old centre-back but the Blues are poised to make a £10m swoop.
The Star on Sunday claim that should City manager Mark Hughes miss out on Terry he will turn his attention to Porto defender Bruno Alves. The £20m-rated Portugal international is also wanted by Barcelona.
Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho has become frustrated in his pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Deco and will instead turn his attention to Tottenham Hotspur's Jermaine Jenas, The People report. Mourinho first enquired about Jenas, 26, when Spurs boss Harry Redknapp contacted him over the availability of Ricardo Quaresma.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are preparing a £25m swap deal, involving midfield flop David Bentley, to bring Aston Villa winger Ashley Young to White Hart Lane, according to the Mail on Sunday.
But Spurs will face competition for his signature from Manchester United, who, the Sunday Express report, are also on the verge of completing a £20m deal to sign 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder Douglas Costa from Gremio
Liverpool have rejected offers from three clubs for striker Fernando Torres, one of which was believed to be around £60m, from an English club other than Manchester City, Reds manager Rafael Benitez told the Sunday Times. "It was a proper offer, a big one, but we said no and he wanted to stay here," said Benitez.
