Paper Round

Surprise, surprise, Manchester City are the ones in the news again today as Elano looks to get himself out of the club before he's smothered by all the new players.

The Brazilian, 28, is trying to engineer a move on a season-long loan to German club Cologne or Inter Milan after being told not to join the club's pre-season tour of South Africa, say the Independent.

City are also keen to sign John Terry [no surprise] there, but the Daily Star think £40m is the magic number to seal the deal.

The Times also reckon that Joleon Lescott is keen on a move, and will PLEAD with David Moyes to be allowed to move to City for £18m. Which, of course, would probably spell the end of Richard Dunne's Eastlands career.

Aston Villa are suddenly splashing the cash and have been linked with moves for two Tottenham players. Alan Hutton is one, and the Sun say that Jermaine Jenas is the other. Although they would cost a combined total of £15m, which seems a lot.

While the Guardian agree that Jenas will cost a cool £10m, they seem to think he'll be headed to Inter Milan as the Italians look to spend some of the cash they'll get for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Daily Mirror think that Nigel Reo-Coker is a £3m target for Middlesbrough; but a swap deal for Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli, who they value at £5m could be on the cards.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are looking to make a difference to their squad. However the Daily Mirror think it won't be with Klaas Jan-Huntelaar who is set for an £18m move to Stuttgart instead.

Bolton have made a £2m bid for Hull midfielder Sam Ricketts, say the Daily Star. Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is giving up on Wigan midfielder Lee Cattermole after failing with a £6m bid. Birmingham are ready to make a £4m offer for Reading's Stephen Hunt.

The Daily Telegraph say that Sunderland could be successful in their £12m bid to sign Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch. But we'll find out later.

And finally, Sir Alex Ferguson believes Cristiano Ronaldo's love for Manchester United could see him return one day. "He may come back, you never know... He loved United," said Ferguson in the Sun; before reigniting his war of words with Carlos Tevez, claiming he is ''not worth £25m.''
