Paper Round

Liverpool's cash crisis has hit the summer spending plans of manager Rafa Benitez and it looks like the Spaniard will have to shop in the bargain basement during the transfer window.

Benitez will now have to ditch a hit-list which included the likes of Gareth Barry, David Villa and Carlos Tevez, according to The Sun. Barry has already joined Manchester City and with Tevez and Villa out of his price range Benitez finds himself scouting players such as Middlesbrough striker Tuncay and Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.

To add to the Reds Boss' woes The Sun also report that midfielder Javier Mascherano has stunned Liverpool by admitting he wants to quit Anfield and join Champions League winners Barcelona, saying "if a club like Barcelona want you, obviously a player will say he wants to play there".

Meanwhile, over at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are ready to make Sergio Aguero the highest paid player in the Premier League after making a record breaking move for the Atletico Madrid striker.

The Daily Star report that the Blues are closing in on a £40m deal for the Argentina international, who scored 17 goals in 34 appearances for Atletico last season, which could include a £160,000-per-week pay packet for the 21-year-old.

Over at Arsenal it looks like it might be case of one in and one out; the Daily Mirror claim that manager Arsene Wenger is ready to offload defender William Gallas once he completes the signing of £11m Ajax centre-back Thomas Vermaelen. Juventus and AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing the 32-year-old.

Harry Redknapp will be his usual busy self in the transfer window with a number of players expected to be bought and sold at Tottenham Hotspur over the summer. The Daily Mirror claim that Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes could be the first out of the door after being offered back to PSV Eindhoven for £8m.

Also on his way is striker Darren Bent. The Daily Express report that the England international could be heading to Sunderland for £8m and fellow forward Roman Pavlyuchenko is also available for £12m.

Coming in through the revolving door at White Hart Lane could be Atletico Madrid midfielder Maxi Rodriguez and Galatasaray winger Arda Turan, according to the Daily Mail.

Rodriguez, 28, has a wealth of experience playing in the top flight in Spain and is regarded as one of the best left-sided players in La Liga while Turan, who is right-footed but plays on the left, has been voted one of the best young players in the world.

West Ham United chief executive Scott Duxbury has told the Daily Telegraph that the club are close to making three major signings and has dismissed claims the club remains in financial trouble despite this week's takeover. However, there are reports that England defender Matthew Upson could be on his way out of Upton Park after putting his Essex mansion up for sale.

And finally... Croatia coach, Slaven Bilic, is "very interested" in holding talks with Portsmouth over the club's vacant managerial position, according to his agent and The Guardian.

Tuncay would be a brilliant addition to Liverpool. The guy is treated as somewhat of a deity in Turkey and kudos to them. In the real world, in a poor Boro side, he has proven over the last 2 seasons, that he is a player who doesn't know the meaning of giving up/in. He's like the "duracell bunnie" in that, he never stops, be it running, harrying, battling, scoring and his never say die attitude. He has the vision and talent to fit into most teams and would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad. He reminds me of, in his prime, Craig Johnstone with his work rate and the like but with a bit more finesse and natural abilty. The guy can play! I don't agree that Liverpool will be able to get him on the cheap he is, after all, a proven international, captain of his football fanatical country and one hell of a player. Liverpool fans know how good players around the country and world are and I defy any of them to come up with a reason as to why Tuncay wouldn't be an excellent addition.
