Paper Round
Posted by Dale Johnson on 05/13/2009

We're approaching the time of the year when the press goes into overdrive to mix up as many stories as possible. Without any matches the football pages have to be filled somehow.

And, of course, one club who will feature in this column on a daily basis are Manchester City.

This summer's mini transfer saga looks set to be the race for Carlos Tevez. And it seems something of a shock that it's taken a paper, in this case the Daily Express, this long to link the little Argentine with a move across the city from United. They want to sign everyone else so why not Carlos?

There appears to be many twists to the story, however, with The Sun claiming United are trying to find a loophole to get him permanently on a free transfer, rather than shell out upwards of £30m to Kia Joorabchian and MSI.

It seems a little wide of the mark to suggest they could get him under the Bosman ruling, considering he is tied to a company rather than a club,

But over at the Daily Star, it is thought AC Milan will throw £40m at MSI to get the striker.

From one good striker to the Most Overrated In The World. The Independent quotes Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who amazing earns £8m a year, with Chelsea and Manchester United, in addition to Barcelona and Real Madrid.

We'd really like it if Chelsea would make a decision over their new manager, as we're getting a bit sick of writing stories about Carlo Ancelotti and his future at AC Milan. Now the Daily Telegraph says that if he does take over at the Bridge then Andrea Pirlo and Kaka will follow him to the Premier League.

Over at Liverpool now, also linked with a possible move for Tevez, there's an interesting story in relation to Xabi Alonso and possible bids from Arsenal. It seems odd that Rafa would want to ditch a player who has done so well this term - though he did try to use the Spaniard under his sell to buy policy last summer.

The Daily Star quotes a price of £16m - which seems excessive for a manager as prudent as Arsene Wenger. All may depend, of course, on Liverpool being successful in a new chase for Aston Villa's Gareth Barry.

Meanwhile, over at The Sun, the paper has re-linked the Reds with a move for David Silva, even though Rafa has always denied any interest.

Big Sam, of course, is well known for his silky football. Which is why some of the world's most skillful players want to play for him (...) at whichever club he manages. So there's no doubt he'll be able to land Barcelona wonder kid Bojan Krcic on loan for next season, is there? We don't have much faith in that story from The Sun. The rag does have a "senior Rovers source" though.

Cardiff's failure to even make the Championship play-offs this season means star man Joe Ledley will be on his way. The latest transfer link is to Everton, claims The Sun.

And finally, and also in the The Sun, both Aston Villa and Tottenham are said to be considering a move for Mark Schwarzer.
