Could Alan Shearer be about to abandon his old pal's act with Michael Owen and drop the misfiring striker? It seems he might. The Daily Telegraph say that "Magic Mike", or "Mediocre Mike", as he was once labelled in these pages, is going to be riding pine when Newcastle United travel to Anfield.
The Mirror, Daily Mail, Sun and Times run the same story. If you ask us at Soccernet, Big Al might well be making the right decision.
Liverpool themselves, for whom Rafa Benitez is banging the drum about Liverpool keeping up their chase for the title and being angry about Howard Webb, may be set for another battle with Manchester United, if the Daily Express is to be believed. They both want Aaron Lennon, £20million-rated by Spurs. Patrice Evra may be sighing with relief but do we really want another United v Spurs tug of war.
Arsene Wenger's Friday presser always stirs the pot and this time he's created a discussion point by saying goalkeeper Manuel Almunia should replace David James between the England sticks. The Telegraph runs that line, while in The Sun, Gianfranco Zola calls for Robert Green to be given the job.
The plot thickens in the Arsenal takeover story. Stan Kroenke's latest purchasing of shares takes his slice up to 28.3%. The Guardian considers the implications of that.
Ricky Sbragia, the quiet man of the dug-out, has bared his teeth in the direction of Roy Keane, whose recent comments have annoyed the softly spoken Scot. Over in The Independent, Sbragia delivers this quote: "Maybe he still thinks he's the manager (of Sunderland)." Maybe not, but Keano is the elephant in the Black Cats' room it seems. What will happen when, and if, Sunderland face Ipswich next season?
Guus Hiddink has also shown his combative side. The Sun runs his line that Barcelona should stop complaining about Chelsea's strong-arm approach in the Champions League. Football is a man's game, apparently. Catch that in The Times too if you fancy a broadsheet view.

first of all, i believe shearer is right.. owen is the same type of celebrity player like beckham, will perform better when dropped and make a return..
2ndly, lennon is good with his speed, hwever, he cant cross..
3rdly, wenger is experienced enough in a game to tell who is a better goal keeper to england.. Even Foster is better than James..

chelsea's bully boy behavior was so disgraceful as was the referring -- barcelona were in fact right about the fouls and the press should stop their slavish defense of chelsea's rugby-style tactics (which is because they're english or speak english or whatever, who knows). sad to see someone with an attacking pedigree like hiddink have to defend these the high-priced pack of goons chelsea have acquired.
