Paper Round

Michael Owen's future is the subject of most tabloid talk on Monday as England's injury crisis up front gets worse. Who will Fabio Capello pick ahead of the Newcastle man? It's Darren Bent, what a slap in the face!

Most papers are putting the final nails in the striker's international coffin, with the Sun proclaiming that the former wonder -boy is history. Capello is apparently not keen to rely on his past glories for a crucial game against the Ukraine next week. Of course, relying on a misfiring £16.5m striker who is not even guaranteed a game with Spurs seems a much better option.

Meanwhile the Guardian continue the build-up to the big one with a warning from John Terry over the key to Ukraine's success, Chelsea-flop Andriy Shevchenko.

Brilliant from the England skipper. Look out for that lad up front who could once confidently claim to be one of the best in the world but has now fallen off the rails with impressive speed (something he now lacks). We just hope that while old JT is watching Shevchenko like an eagle, Ukraine's real in-form striker, Andriy Voronin, doesn't upset the party.

Transfer news now and Wigan are the centre of everything this morning with a Benitez signing on the horizon. Calm down Reds' fans, it's only Cristian! The Santos Laguna striker is ready to become the second Ecuador player to grace the gates of the JJB, say the Daily Mirror, just as Antonio Valencia heads out of them

Valencia has been causing quite a stir with his twinkle-toed performances and speculation is rife over where he might end up, with Manchester United favourites. £7m for Benitez, £!7m for the sale of Valencia, leaves Stevie Bruce with a nice £10m to get a replacement for Wilson Palacios and Emile Heskey. We bet he sends his scouts to South America again.

The Daily Mirror also have the latest from Manchester City as they are apparently ready to give up their chase for Chelsea's John Terry and are turning their attention to Real Madrid's Fabio Cannavaro instead. Not quite sure how that will sure up their leaky defence though.

The Guardian reckon he might opt for Spurs instead as Harry Redknapp searches for a solution to the Ledley King injury dilemma, while Arsene Wenger has begun to sniff around Joleon Lescott in an effort to get a head start on FIFA's 6+5 rule.

Capello make a major mistake in Beckham in Real madrid and have to bite his word when Beckham play super before end his career there. His decision to opt out Owen is the same. Seriously he is worry Owen if successful will be another Beckham slap on his face. Eventhough I would believe Owen will do well but will not be at Capello expense.
I can only say Owen wont make it to the group reason rest of England player do not support the poor kid who once did so well for England. For GOD sake like though he like and enjoy being injured.
Well if me is Owen why let Media plays with word and sound like he is pity or desperate. Be a MAN like Carragher annouce retirement from International. If a foriegn manager in charge of England no heart for him why should he die for his country. Play well in Newcastle and shows Capello make wrong decision.

Atleast beckham doesnt spend 80 per cent of the season in crutches. When owen can demonstrate he can maintain his fitness over a long stretch of games then capello has no business in recalling him. If he can stay healthy then he definantely should be in the squad if not then its over for him.
