Paper Round
Posted by John Brewin on 03/07/2009

Surprise, surprise, The Sun has something of insight. OK, they lifted it from French newspaper L'Equipe. But Sir Alex Ferguson has given an interview that is as open as we've seen for a while. When will he retire?

“I have been on the train for so long that when I get off I fear my system will collapse.I have decided not to ask myself the question any more.

“Three things can make me stop. 1. My health. 2. If I don’t take pleasure any more. 3. If I don’t have the strength for new challenges any more.

“Each summer, I have a look at those three things. I go to my doctor first. I had a pacemaker set up four or five years ago.

“Today, I am playing the penalty shoot-out of my managerial career. I know that. The rest is decided between me and me.

“I see my doctor every summer. He says ‘boss, you are 67. You will have more and more back pains. Getting up in the morning sometimes won’t be easy.’

“This is the penalty shootout.”

There you go. On with the rest. Cesc Fabregas tells the same Wapping organ that he's on his way back. He's kicking a football, which is the aim.

Meanwhile, Ashley Cole is still in the news and the Daily Mirror tells us that Guus Hiddink blames John Terry for the bestselling autobiographer's latest misadventure. The quotes used do not mention him by name but JT's presence in the VIP area sees the Mirror put 2 and 2 together and make, well, they might be correct. Cheryl Cole has finished her mountain climb and all hell may break loose soon. William Hill offer 20/1 that the marriage could be off. Worth a punt? You decide.

Ego corner continues. Jose Mourinho has no plans to return to England, say the Mirror. Which goes against previous statements but no-one asks these people to be consistent, do they?

Darren Fletcher is a rare Scotsman. He does not drink, as he reveals to Martin "Bluto" Samuel in the Daily Mail. He also says that Roy Keane did not like use of a mobile phone. Good interview. Read it.

In The Guardian, Harry Redknapp tells us that Luka Modric is good enough to play for anyone. One agrees. He's too good for that Tottenham mob if you ask me.

The Telegraph has an interesting line on how Manchester City are waiting for Valencia's firesale. Villa and Silva are arriving soon, says Steve Wilson, though the Spanish club want a whopping £135m.

And everyone is on about David Beckham's timeshare agreement to sign for Milan while still a Galaxy player.

The Daily Mail interview with Fletcher is a gem.. I am a United Fan for all my life, that's why it's so special. But fans from other teams should read it too and understand why United is.. United. And like no other..
Thanks for the link..

What a STUPID deal. Why is he saying it's a dream deal when he said it's going to be difficult going back to the states. This guy is just full of lies or is it just PR. And you guys in the media stop shoving him down our throats, we have just had it. He ain't nothing special in terms of football even his looks. Sexy and handsome according to who?. I know millions of good looking guys but because they are not famous doesn't mean they are not handsome and sexy. Lord help you, help him, help us all.
