Paper Round
Posted by John Brewin on 03/27/2009

Sir Alex Ferguson has put the question of his retirement date firmly on the backburner since 2002 but his son might just have blown his cover. Just about every publication possible has picked up the words of son Darren. The Telegraph is not alone in reporting his belief that he will retire after next season.

The same paper carries a line that Emmanuel Adebayor is back in AC Milan's sights.

In the absence of any football this week the rumour mill is in full swing. Barcelona however are trying their best to ward off any links with their stars. Lionel Messi is not for sale, say The Sun. And Thierry Henry, who looks a more plausible option for Manchester City is set to be offered a new deal by the Catalan club, says the same paper.

Liverpool's Spanish Rafa-lution could be continuing if they add David Silva to their ranks. Valencia want to sell their player abroad. That's in plenty of papers and looks highly likely if Liverpool have the cash to spend.

That cash may be raised by Tom Hicks' flogging of his 50% share in the club. He's supposed to have issued Merrill Lynch with instructions to find a buyer. In The Sun.

West Ham meanwhile, will continue their taste for Italian players and coaches with a £9m move for Atalanta striker Sergio Floccari if the Daily Mirror is to be believed. That would be a record down Upton Par.

As reported yesterday on Soccernet, Steven Defour is heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa. The Standard Liege star is looking like he's likely to link up with Martin O'Neill.

Where else to but to end it like Beckham. He's heavily quoted as saying that he's planning to play until he's 50. At the same time club colleague Paolo Maldini, who's not far off achieving that target, has also been blowing cover - Darren-style - by saying Becks will not be going back to LA Galaxy. In the Mirror, that is.

There was a lot of hype about Ferguson retiring last time around and it never happened. Maybe he'll leave if they can pull off the quintuple... it wouldn't get much better than that as a manager (apart from the World Cup, but Scotland aren't quite up to that!)

Obviously,Sir Alex is an Icon to rekcon with,Considering all the landmark acheivements.
We just hope there will be a potential like him to fill the vacum to be left.

He is an icon and I think he needs to rest before he spoils what he has b4.But the problem now is.Who is gonna take over from him?And can the person be equal to the task that Ferguson has faced?

If Man U lost the English Premier League Championship to Liverpool this season Alex Ferguson would call it quits. However, he will retire next season after winning the 19th league title to get one better than the Reds. That is his ambition. That is his driving force. To get better than Liverpool, the team who grew up to love to hate so much. So Alex is still around.

fergie's not gonna quit that easy.he's still have couple more years left in him, strong & dominant.even though im not a fan of him, but i respected him a lot of his achievements & success.one of the best managers i've seen in the premier league history.

Posted by suleiman kuliya usman on 04/05/2009

Fergies record has shown he is presently the best manager in the world.I think he should quit when the ovation is loudest(NOW).Possible replacement should be the special one(mourinho)

Posted by Patrick Paran on 04/05/2009

Jose Maurinho is likely to be the only man able to emulate what ferguson has done at united... Only problem is that his mouth is too big for any one person, or maybe even a whole team... But what the heck, he is the best damn manager second to Fergie of course... But it would be nice to see him at united if he does retire...
