With Victor Anichebe recovering from Kevin Nolan's tackle and news that Mikel Arteta will miss the rest of the season, the papers are full of Everton gossip and it looks like a bad time to be a Toffee fan.
Obviously the club can't replace Arteta as the transfer window is closed, but that doesn't stop the Daily Mail from speculating that they will reignite their interest in Sporting Lisbon's Joao Moutinho.
The Portuguese midfielder nearly joined the Toffees in the summer, but the clubs couldn't agree a fee, as he is valued at around £20m. Perhaps the Goodison outfit should be looking for strikers instead as their injury crisis deepened on Sunday thanks to a certain Scouse Magpie.
The Daily Mail bring you the news that Anichebe's leg was saved from being ''snapped in half'' by some £12 shinpads and that's a good message for kids. If you're going to have your leg stamped on by one of the opposition, make sure you have some protection - although if you're a Premier League footballer you might want to spend a little more on them so you don't look like such a cheapskate. You can bet Cristiano Ronaldo's cost a bit more.
We at Soccernet can bring you other leg-crunching news that Didier Digard will miss the rest of the season for Middlesbrough after Lee Cattermole did his best to hurt his old team. Not that they need much help.
Elsewhere, the Sun claim that Arsene Wenger is going on ''a new moral crusade'' and reckon he thinks he's the ONLY one in Europe to be developing young talent. Although he must be getting them from somewhere!
Sticking with Arsene, the Daily Express say Arsenal's boss is predicting his side will emulate Manchester United's 'Golden Generation' if he can keep them together. And therein lies the problem. Keeping the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott happy without any trophies could be his biggest challenge yet, but he is long overdue a bit of success in some department.
At least Fabregas will be back soon, as the The Daily Star claim he is ''fit to play'', although certainly won't against Roma.
The Gunners have been linked with a bid for Portsmouth's Nico Krancjar (although he has said he wants to join a club in the Champions League in the summer) and the Daily Telegraph say he'll stall on his new contract talks in a bid to bring in a big-money offer. Pompey might be wise to cash in while they still have the chance.
The Daily Mirror think Steve Bruce is eyeing his latest South American import and is preparing a £6m bid for Ecuador striker Christian Benitez, who plays for Santos Laguna in Mexico. Benitez will almost certainly want to link up with fellow countryman Antonio Valencia, so he should probably think about joining Manchester United, as that's where the winger will most likely end up.
The Daily Star think that
Rangers midfielder Steven Davis could be on the verge of a return to the Premier League with Sunderland or Wigan; while Danny Shittu looks set to leave Bolton, with Wolves, Birmingham and Reading in for the central defender.
And finally, the Sun have picked up on a rather amusing letter from Middlesbrough's Safety Officer asking fans to cut down the "constant banging and noise from the back of the stand". The fact that Boro haven't scored in eight hours of Premier League football suggests that perhaps they're put off once they're through on goal - but at least it'll be deathly quiet when Afonso Alves shanks his next shot into the crowd.
