Paper Round

The morning newspapers in England are of course dominated by Rafael Benitez's "defiant" cries of unity and commitment as he says he won't walk away. However, you can read that on ESPN Soccernet and every other news source on the planet so we won't repeat and bore.

Another big boss is having a good moan though, and it hasn't taken Guus Hiddink long to begin ripping into the bones of Luis Felipe Scolari's tenure.

Guus is far from happy with the fitness levels being shown by his Chelsea stars. Clearly they need to shed a few pounds. Hiddink thinks his new side simply does not have the fitness levels to win the Champions League. That's in the Daily Mirror..

The Sun has a slightly bizarre transfer story. The inconsistent and, let's be honest, not-very-good Salomon Kalou - whose only fan appears to be his former Feyenoord youth boss Ruud Gullit - would enjoy playing for Arsenal.

"I will think of my future once the season is over," he crows after lauding the Gunners and their manager Arsene Wenger. We think he'll look good alongside Nicklas Bendtner.

There could be financial meltdown at Portsmouth, which would come as no surprise to many. The Daily Mirror seems to have it on good authority that the South African backers of owner Sacha Gaydamak want their £25m loan back.

And such is the concern of those in power down at Fratton Park it's even been suggested they've had to ask the Premier League for help. Could we see the first ever club in administration from the Premier League?

Big Sam Allardyce may have only been at Blackburn Rovers for a few mince pies and some New Year cheer, but he's already batting off questions about his future.

Rovers have done well since he replaced the woeful Incey back in December but with Rovers in the drop zone some have speculated he'll be gone if they go down. That's according to The Sun.

Hull's troubles are getting deeper by the week with no sign of a Premier League win. And it must be bad. Why? They are thinking of recalling the soon-to-be 40-year-old Dean Windass to breathe new life into their season. He's currently at Oldham, though he's done well in goal so maybe The Daily Mirror thinks he's coming back between the sticks?

More news on Newcastle now, and it's been claimed good old Mike Ashley forked out another £10m in January on Kevin Nolan and also the final payment on the over-rated Jonas Gutierrez. What a saviour. Check out The Guardian.

And finally one of our favourite transfers of the January window was Real Madrid's Julien Faubert Faux Pas. The West Ham loanee is stunned not to be in the Champions League squad and thinks he may have no future at the Bernabeu. We think he may be right. It's in The Daily Mirror.
