Chelsea, of course, dominate today's news agenda. Guus Hiddink is incoming and the UK hacks have plenty to say about that. And it's a combination of speculation about what went wrong at Stamford Bridge for Big Phil and what the Dutchman will be paid.
The Sun lead on Hiddink trousering £2.5m from Chelsea for just four months' work. Nice. Meanwhile the Daily Express says he's getting £4m. Stable-mates the Daily Star also say he's getting £2.5m. Someone is wrong. Maybe all of them. Do they not chat at Desmond Towers?
All the papers are making a big thing of John Terry's quote that Scolari "had my support and that of 'one or two others", as shown by Henry Winter's preview of England's match in Spain. The same quote has been seized on in the Daily Mail, The Guardian, The Sun and The Express. Winter theorizes in the Daily Telegraph that it was Petr Cech, Michael Ballack and Didier Drogba that led the revolt.
So Hiddink has much to do to bring a divided group of players together if you read just about anybody. Still, £2.5m/£4m will probably soothe the problems for the Russia coach.
It seems that Hiddink is only here on a temporary basis. There is talk that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will not countenance a full-time move and that Hiddink will find it very difficult to disagree with a former head of the KGB. So say the Mirror and who would disagree with that? So what of a successor?
AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti is most heavily linked. The Mirror's assertion that he represents a budget choice for Chelsea - no pay-off from Milan and a mere £3.5m yearly salary, is backed up by our friends at The Daily Telegraph. Meanwhile, Deco is set to follow Phil out, according to that self-same organ, who derive the conclusion that the Brazilian/Portugese midfielder will be getting out of dodge because he criticised Roman Abramovich's decision to axe Scolari.
A more telling quote comes from Christophe Lollichon, the Blues' goalkeeping coach: "Maybe the organisation did not correspond to the players in place," "All in all, the problem is maybe not tactical. There was an excess of athletic preparation and in terms of the players we had, it was not normal. I could not see how it could continue in this direction."
Personally, that tells more of the story to me than Deco's anondyne quote about a father figure.
Beckham corner. The Mirror say Becks will equal Bobby Moore by being given his 108th cap as a result of his commitment to staying at AC Milan. The Independent follow that line too.

Abramovich already pays quite a large part of Hiddinks salary as the Russia coach. On Dutch radio today (feb 11th), Hiddink claimed to undertake the job 'for no extra money, kind of a friendly gesture'. While this maybe true, I'm rather sure that he will get the customary game premiums.

The tenure of each of Abramovich's manager is getting shorter. Hiddick - 3 months, Scolari 6 months, Avram - 12 months and Jose I think 2 years or slightly more. By June, Mr A should take over 'The Apprentice' as a way to 'fire' candidates to exorcise his recent tendencies. Tony Adams, Paul Ince could be on the panel as 'interns' seeking a job. He can enjoy himself and scream 'you're fired'on a weekly basis which is more fun than the now quarterly episodes. And the winner of the Apprentice Manager season would be the cheapest manager of all coming for free with the opportunity of working for Chelsea taking care of his escalating managerial expenses and bottomline. Because at this point, Roman, you're fired!
