Nicolas Anelka has delivered a scathing assessment of Chelsea's title chances, saying his team are not good enough to overcome the Premier League's big guns.

The league's top marksman told The Sun that the Blues have become clueless against the big teams. Asked about Chelsea's costly 2-0 defeat at Liverpool last Sunday Anelka said: "We just didn't know how to play against Liverpool."

The Frenchman may have scored 14 goals this year but he may find himself on the bench after that revelation.

Robbie Keane continued Saturday's assault on managers by telling the Daily Mail that Rafa Benitez was responsible for turning his Liverpool dream into a nightmare. The childhood Reds fan returned to Tottenham Hotspur after only six months at Anfield claiming he was 'baffled' by the Spaniard's decision to ignore his talent.

Keane also revealed he would give his medal away if Liverpool were to win the Premier League. "It would mean nothing at all to me now," he said. "My brother is a Liverpool fan so I'd probably give it to him."

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is being driven mad by the lack of steel shown by football's pampered stars as his team battles against relegation, according to The Times.

Not only that, but 'Arry has warned young English footballers that they are in danger of being squeezed out of the game unless they match the hunger shown by players from Africa and poorer parts of the world.

The Spurs boss gave his pep talk ahead of Sunday's north London derby with Arsenal.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson appears to be in particularly generous mood and has told England manager Fabio Capello that he can pick injured striker Wayne Rooney for Wednesday's friendly in Spain if he wants to.

“It’s up to Fabio to decide,” Ferguson told the Daily Star.

Rooney has been on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and will only be on the bench against West Ham United. Ferguson was famously furious with former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson in 2006 when Rooney played at the World Cup a few weeks after breaking his foot.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror report that Andrei Arshavin's WAG Yulia might cause a few problems for Arsenal's new signing after declaring she can't stand the English - except Victoria Beckham.

“I do not particularly like England,” Yulia said in an interview before the player clinched his £15 million move to London. “In my opinion, people there are too reserved and it’s dull.”

The 26-year-old has obviously never been on a night out in London... or any of the UK's towns on a Friday night.

Everton manager David Moyes has not yet forgiven Victor Anichebe for his training ground bust-up and refused to talk about the striker in his pre-match press conference, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Moyes insisted the striker would not play against Bolton Wanderers because he was injured but when asked further questions about Anichebe the Toffees boss simply sported a wry grin and remained silent.

When chelsea played "boring" football under Mourinho according to the press we got the desired result. Avram Grant tried his best to give us the desired result.Scolari has exposed his weakness..he can't be a club coach. This Chelsea team cant win a street championship..We should forget all competition this season and build for the next. Our team needs re-engineering..the team is getting old. Peter Kenyon should talk to Roman Abramovich to employ Frank Rikaard as coach of chelsea..Scolari would not deliver.

I agree with you michael 43, we need to build for the next season, if scolari stays he needs to get players that will be loyal to his agenda, right now chelsea is not a team, but one would equate them with a pick team from the usa. It really hurts me to write this!!!!!

Chelsea had the impression that they would dominate England and Europe for years, but the reality is coming home to them that it takes more than a huge cheque book to do that. Replacing Scolari is not necessarily the solution. Maybe they should sign true quality rather than stack their squad with aging stars.

The Biggest mistake of Peter Kenyon and Roman Abramavich's decision was to part company with "The Great One"

I have been a Chelsea Support since my School Days. I watched them play Everton at Stamford Bridge in 1970, when they lost the Charity Shield. However, I was still proud of them.

I fully agree with Michael. Frank rijkaard would be the best bet for chelsea if we need to see free flowing football from them. I am surprised at Anelka's comment though, he has been no match winner and do not possess talent as drogba to single handedly change the complexion of the match. His goals have helped chelsea, but when the team needed he has always fallen short of expectations!!

I agree with Nicolas 100%. We are playing like headless chickens. Under Jose we played through the middle, Lamps led the league in shots on goal and scored like 15-20 every year. Now Lamps looks ordinary and the front line has no supply. I hate chopping and changing managers but Scolari is not the answer. Frank Rijkaard, maybe. Roberto Mancini, maybe. A world cup winner and Chelsea hero, Didier Deschamps, yes. As for Harry's comments, it shows we still have bigotry from the top of the game.

I find Anelka's comments mind-boggling. Yes, Chelsea aren't that good this season, but the only reason he HAS 14 goals is because of the players behind him.

Within a year, he'll probably be a regular fixture at the Hawthornes when Abramovich's overnight empire is done burning.

Am not a chelsea fan, but its correct that scolari will not make any impact at the club.He must be sent away if chelsea must be what it use to be.

Real its boring! Chelsea have all good players that any manager would like to have. We don't know what Phil is doing. Phil is the source for lost confidence of chelsea players. If he cant change its better to be sacked and leave a chance for another manager. My advice to phil, he has to impat confidence to players, still chelsea can do something in the title race.

chelsea's run is over much like leeds, sheffield united during their famous runs and could be relegated in about 3 or 4 years...drogba and lampard will be gone by the end of the summer, leading to cech, ballack, etc. all leaving the next summer because it's obvious abra has no $$ and the big four will be manu, liverpool, AV, and arsenal

Abramovich is really in a pickle now. he got rid of two coaches who were more than suitable for the job. Mourinho brought chelsea back to greatness, and Grant was literally a game away in every major competition. despite losing all of them, he was just as close to winning. If he replayed the champion's league game, who knows who would have won it the second time.

Now the Great Scolari looks like a fool amongst them. there is not much change in the team. it is the same as last year, but with addition of Bosingwa and Deco. And he can't even compete against the Top 3? scoreless against Liverpool. Thrashed and Manchester. it really is pathetic.

Always an overrated coach. Won with a star studded brazil squad, could not do much with a star studded portugal squad. there is no possible way that he can keep his job with the reasons the others were fired

I have never called anyone a fool on a blog, but I believe that the comment above mine represents a group of Chelsea fans that are not really fans in the sense. Even if Scolari is not yet on top, does that mean that we Chelsea fans should give up on our own team? We are losing out on the Fa Cup, Champions league and premiership for every game we criticize our players and coach without giving them a chance, cause we are still in these competitons. I am most dissapointed with these group of fans who do not rememember the days when Chelsea had to qualify for the Champions League on the last day. To these "mourinho fans": Go back to your former clubs! Overstressing your manager wouldn't get us anyway. So if Scolari doesn't win anything sack him, we won't re-employ mourinho...DO YOU WANT US TO END UP LIKE NEWCASTLE AND KEVIN KEEGAN?

Posted by samuel suoyo timiepre on 02/07/2009

jose murinho is the best coach i know on planet earth.chelsea should help me sack scolari and bring in a very good coach like frank.it will pay me well if they bring another coach.after the sacking of grant,i taught chelsea would go for frank.for now, frank is the best coach for chelsea.

Mourinho no doubt struck a perfect bond at Stamford bridge.I still believe he would have won the champions league with Chelsea had he stayed but that is not taking anything away from Scolari's credentials as a top performer. He has been both club and national team coach at top level and so fits Chelsea.Even if we need re-engineering of some sort and have to achieve that at the expense of any silverware this season,Scolari should be allowed to do it because he is a top coach and big clubs are known to keep their coaches for long enough time to package their teams. But who says the season is over for us in terms of silverware?I don't think so at all.

Posted by Raj on 02/07/2009

Bring back THE SPECIAL ONE....he is the only one can deliver for Chelsea. Less then 3 season with almost all the cup he won, except CL. Roman, this is not oil matter....this is footbal! Jose is classic! Look at Gunners....& LoserFOOL....how many cup that they won for the last few years....yet non of the club chase them out!!

I been supporting Chelsea many years....dissapointing on Roman & Uncle P.Kenyon...they screwed up the whole thing....

Posted by Jadoon on 02/07/2009

Last year when Scolari was made the coach of Chelsea, it was assumed that he will bring the title back but he has disappointed us very much. He can not be a good club coach so should be replaced.

Posted by Greg on 02/07/2009

Chelsea are not good enough to lift a trophy.arsenal even in their poorest condition have proven that a good coach matters.Scolari is not a good coach..............

Posted by Peter on 02/07/2009

The problem could be that winning major championships isn't easy or automatic.

Posted by bennylava on 02/08/2009

IMHO, Chelsea should be satisfied with a 3rd place this season judging from their performance on the pitch. Yes, Scolari must take some blame for his team's recent lacklustre performance. However, players still, have the most impact on the pitch. (Players play, not the manager) Against Hull City, they got only 3 shots on target out of 20 odd for the whole 90 min?
The only thing i agree with Anelka admitting they clueless about how to win games.
But he must remember, the reason he got 14 goals to his name is NOT because of himself, but credits to the midfielders who fed him. He must be humble.
This squad is aging with players like Deco, Ballack, Belleti. Time for a major revamp. Stick with the back 5, Lampard and Kalou. The rest can go.

interesting comment.. im not a chelsea fan..far from it..im a red devil..
over these past 5 years..i have to admit..chelsea under mourinho was most probably one of the hardest team to beat but he's no longer there so i guess u have to move on..
liverpool(even thou i hate admitting that) have grown stronger over the years and it took rafa 3-5years to change the mentality of the team..
my guess is..scolari would need the same amount of time(if not less)to have a real impact in the english league.. u have to remember..it is his first time managing in england.. so he definitly will need time.. thats my honest opinion.. and i honestly think chelsea wont win any trophies this season with the way their playing.

Posted by deadman on 02/09/2009

All u chelsea fans are HYPOCRITES
U were ALL VERY HAPPY WHEN ROMAN WAS PUMPING MILLIONS IN THE CLUB BUT NOW THAT HE STOPPED U ALL CRITICISE HIM...
AND ANOTHER THING U GUYS SHOULD REMEMBER IS PAYING BIG MONEY FOR OLD PLAYERS NEVER WAS A SMART MOVE...

Posted by dolph on 02/09/2009

i was a d blues supportet before the big spender came alone and then i changed, i lot has happend since then but all i cann say is it was not a passion any more to be part of chelsea, they thot they can get who ever they want and dat changed the true value of players. Now they r geting what they deserved by bringing in players already on their final stages, bring in hiddink maybe we wl c something change

Posted by Kunle Agunbiade on 02/18/2009

it's really been a disappointing performance with chelsea this season. our players lack the needed dedication, the team needs overhauling. it's time the younger players be given opportunity rather than stack the team with aging stars with little or no results. maybe calling the "SPECIAL ONE" back to manage the team again might bring luck, wonderful moments and even the winning mentality back to Stanford Bridge. i hope chelsea bounce back next season.
