23.34 BST ...and on that bombshell, it's time for the transfer blog to recharge its batteries for about eight and a half hours so it can bring you more of those golden nuggets. Which club will be the next to be linked with Andy Carroll? Will PSG buy the entire AC Milan squad? Will Adrian Mariappa demand a move to the DW Stadium? Find out (possibly) from 0800 BST tomorrow morning.
23.29 BST New Watford boss Gianfranco Zola has told the London Evening Standard that he won’t stand in Adrian Mariappa’s way should he decide to leave amid interest from Premier League duo Reading and Wigan.
23.27 BST Atalanta aren’t in for former AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi, who is available on a free transfer. “I have heard the reports relating to Inzaghi, but again none of them are true,” director general Pierpaolo Marino told TuttoAtalanta.com. “At this moment in time, we have made no official move for Pippo Inzaghi.”
23.20 BST Yossi Benayoun is back at Chelsea following the expiry of his loan deal at Arsenal and it appears he’s hoping to stay there and force his way into Roberto Di Matteo’s plans. “Now I am back at Chelsea and I’m trying to do my best in front of Robbie,” he said. “We will just have to see what happens.”
23.11 BST The Evening Chronicle says Newcastle United are holding talks with Demba Ba to try to get him to sign a new contract. One without a frighteningly low release clause.
23.04 BST Newell’s Old Boys are apparently ready to offer Liverpool’s Maxi Rodriguez, 31, a return to his native Argentina.
22.49 BST Interested to know who Bayern might sign next? No one, apparently. And Arjen Robben's staying put too. Story here.
22.34 BST Calcionews24.com says Manchester City - surprisingly quiet this summer - are looking at signing Italy centre-back Andrea Ranocchia, 24, from Inter. Not a new rumour, but it’s the first we’ve seen of it for a while.
22.19 BST Marca says Lassana Diarra could yet stay at Real Madrid. And play as a right-back. The paper reports: “[Madrid] are unwilling to pay the €15m fee that has been quoted for the right-backs in which they are interested. The club has also ruled out Maicon for a variety of other reasons. Within the halls of the Bernabéu, meanwhile, the opinion is that Lass is perfectly capable of filling in at right back and competing with Arbeloa for a first-team spot.”
21.50 BST PSG are said to be closing in on Luka Modric and, though Carlo Ancelotti hasn't been hugely forthcoming coming on the subject, he has praised the Spurs man as one of the best midfielders in the world. Story here.
21.34 BST Anderlecht’s Matias Suarez - variously linked with Bayern, Arsenal and Liverpool - posted on Facebook to announce that he’d be staying in Belgium next season. Only it turned out it wasn’t really his Facebook page. “That’s not true,” he said later in the day. “That is not my official page, so do not take the news as reliable.” So perhaps he is off after all.
21.15 BST The Andy Carroll saga rumbles onward. Well, sort of. ESPN commentator Ian Darke has taken to Twitter to say he doesn’t think the big man be needed at Anfield: “Rodgers likes 4 3 3 with two pacy wide men a la Dyer and Sinclair at Swans. With Suarez a cert for central striker role, no room for Carroll.”
But Liverpool won’t be able to offload him to Tottenham. Rather unsurprisingly, Andre Villas-Boas isn’t looking for a tall target man to spearhead his Spurs revolution. “I'm not sure of Liverpool's intentions on Andy Carroll," Villas-Boas said, “but he's certainly not a player we're looking for."
21.05 BST It seems Liverpool will not be signing Real Madrid’s Jose Callejon. “There are several clubs interested in Callejon, but Real Madrid are unwilling to sell him,” agent Garcia Quilon told AS. “He won’t be sold.”
20.57 BST Chelsea are reportedly planning an improved offer for Andre Schurrle, and Bayer Leverkusen have given them the merest whiff of encouragement. Story here.
20.37 BST A little more on the Ibrahimovic to PSG stuff: Sky Italia and the Gazzetta dello Sport report that agent Mino Raiola has flown to Sweden to speak to the striker and try to persuade him to take the Parisian petrodollars.
20.23 BST There are suggestions that Juan Roman Riquelme could join Didier Drogba at Shanghai Shenhua, but it appears they’re nonsense. As China Football News tweets: “Chinese clubs are only permitted to sign two foreign players in this window, regardless of quotas. Moreno and Drogba already in.”
20.05 BST Sky Sport 24 says Maicon’s move from Inter to Chelsea is being held up because the 30-year-old wants a long contract and Chelsea are too sensible to give it to him. It appears the move is still expected to go through, though.
19.54 BST Denmark defender Simon Kjaer has just tweeted: “Ciao Romanisti! Back in #Wolfsburg. Still don't now where I'll play next season. If it's not #asroma I'll just tell you... ...that I was so PROUD to be #GIallorosso! To all my #asroma team mates: Forza ragazzi! Forza Roma! @OfficialASRoma"

19.23 BST Wondering what’s going on with Hulk’s move to Chelsea or Paris St Germain? If you’re a member of the media, kindly stop wondering aloud to Porto president Pinto da Costa, as he appears to be tired of the story.
“I don't know why you ask me about Hulk and don't ask me about Helton, Moutinho, James [Rodriguez], Maicon and the others,” he told reporters at a political event in Gaia. “Hulk is as close to leaving as the others. For other players, there have been some approaches. Until now, nothing has arrived for Hulk.”
19.13 BST Remember to give us your thoughts using the comments box and we'll do our best to promote a selection. Here's one from reader Joe Smith.
"Being an American, I'd love to see Dempsey sign with Liverpool. Personally, I only think it will help Dempsey, and if LFC can wrap up a deal worth 7 million pounds, what a steal! Charlie Adam cost more than that! Let alone Downing, Henderson, etc."
18.57 BST Crystal Palace are ready to offload wantaway defender Nathaniel Clyne, chairman Steve Parish has revealed. Parish said: "We need to do a deal with Clyne. There is a bit of action in the background and we know there is a lot of interest. It is just about sorting out who it is best to go to and who will put the right money on the table. We're all working to get an outcome. Clubs don't want to go down the tribunal route. It is a game of cat and mouse on the fee - we've just got to let that play out."

"Would he be willing to reduce his contract?" he told Corriere dello Sport. "Mauro would be open to that possibility as he turned down quite a bit of money when he joined Inter on loan."

16.05 BST Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has laughed off suggestions that Barcelona could prise Yohan Cabaye from his grasp for as little at £8 million. He said: "The interest is purely speculative. We have had no contact and certainly no offer, and obviously we wouldn't even consider an offer anywhere near that region.'' Read more here

At least that's according to the Daily Mirror.
