22.00 GMT: Time to wrap it up now folks. We'll be back again tomorrow for much more of the same! Thanks for joining me and have a great Friday night.
21.25 GMT: Everton chief executive Robert Elstone has been defending the club's transfer policy: "Over five years, we have generated a £1million 'cash profit' to fund buying players," he said. "Of course, we've spent much more than this buying players: from June 2006 Everton paid out £94million (including agents' fees) on a stream of internationals like Andrew Johnson, Joleon Lescott, Tim Howard, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, Yakubu, Marouane Fellaini, Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Sylvain Distin and John Heitinga. The club sold Simon Davies, James Beattie, James McFadden, Johnson and Lescott and raised £59million. Accordingly, after all ins and outs, a net £35million has been spent buying new players."

19.59 GMT: Harry Redknapp feels the limited salaries on offer at Spurs make life difficult. "I'd be talking rubbish if I said people wanted to stay at Tottenham just because we're playing good football. I'd be dreaming. If you want to keep the best players, we have to find a way of doing a deal that's near to what they can earn elsewhere, otherwise it will be a problem. If you're a top player and someone wants to give you a fantastic contract, it's very hard to hang on to them."
19.29 GMT: Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish says there is "no way we will add to the wages unless some of the wages are offloaded” this month, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to part with centre-back James Collins. "There's not been an approach as such. We hear there is interest for James and he should be proud of that. He should be proud he is a wanted man but, saying that, he is an Aston Villa player. He has just moved into a new house so we would hope James is here for a long time to come."
19.14 GMT: Thus far unsubstantiated rumours circulating that Queens Park Rangers are close to agreeing a deal for Chelsea's Brazilian defender Alex.
18.54 GMT: Rio Ferdinand doesn’t think Manchester United need to spend this month as injuries are making the squad look weaker than it is. "You see a lot of people moaning about their squads because the transfer window has just opened, but if you took the amount of players we have had out to any other squad in the league, they wouldn't be sitting where we are now," he said. "That speaks volumes for our squad. That is why when I am in the changing room I am more than happy with the people I see around me."
18.23 GMT: DONE DEAL West Ham have caught on to the "loan an MLS player for the winter craze", by signing FC Dallas defender George John on a two-month loan deal. Here that story for you, fresh off the press.

I know there has been a change of coach there but I have no contact from Juarez or his agent, so it's as you were, really.”
16.28 GMT: Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill on potential signings: "I genuinely haven't had that much time to think about it. Of course, it crosses your mind, but to sit down and start going through things, I haven't had the chance to do that. I will do, obviously, next week."
16.12 GMT: Newcastle boss Alan Pardew: "We are trying to get the best possible players with the budgets we have, and we are working hard at that. [Chief scout] Graham Carr does a terrific job for us, as his scouting team does and as my staff do, so on that side of it we are really trying to cover everything we can."
