The Sun: David Beckham has been having a word with Frank Lampard about joining LA Galaxy, it says here, having met up at the paper‘s recent Military Awards. Beckham is looking increasingly likely to stay in California and, although the Galaxy would therefore have three designated players, a source told the paper “there may be a way around the rules” so Lampard can also join.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have taken Nigerian right-back Chibuzor Okonkwo, 23, on trial.
Daily Mirror: The big exclusive is that Liverpool are ready to steal in ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill, with the England man’s wage demands holding up a switch to Stamford Bridge. He’d prefer to stay in the north, apparently.
Even if they miss out on Cahill, Chelsea could still sign an England international in January - they’re said to be keen on Everton starlet Jack Rodwell although, like Manchester United, they won’t match the £20 million asking price. A summer move could be more probable.
The paper also covers a poll in El Mundo Deportivo in which a whopping 57% of fans said Gareth Bale would be their top signing in the summer. We seem to recall John Terry and Frank Lampard doing similarly well in a poll a few years back.
The Guardian: Chelsea remain confident they’ll complete the £7 million signing of Gary Cahill early next week despite the personal terms issue, and they are also likely to take Serbia winger Milos Krasic on loan from Juventus. On the outgoings front, they’ll discuss a loan spell for youngster Josh McEachran but no one has yet made a firm bid for exiled defender Alex.
Daily Star: It’s a familiar rumour but it’s reported in strong terms here: Manchester City want Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi in January and have offered him £160,000 a week to make it happen. The 28-year-old is out of contract at his hometown club in the summer but isn’t massively keen to leave.
Daily Mail: Fulham are ready to sign Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac on loan and also want Guillaume Hoarau from Paris St Germain. However, it may all depend on whether they can offload Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson. The former could join QPR, Aston Villa Sunderland or former club West Ham, while Blackburn are keen on the latter.
Rubin Kazan are keen on Everton flop Diniyar Bilyaletdinov. The Toffees want £6 million for the midfielder they spent £8.9 million signing in August 2009.
