21.37 It's a busy old evening in France, as Nancy become the latest club to welcome new players. Romania striker Daniel Niculae and French midfielder Thomas Mangani have arrived on loan from Monaco.

20.22 It would seem that Sebatsian Coates has signed for Liverpool - Luis Suarez has been on Twitter welcoming his Uruguay team-mate to Anfield. Suarez said: "I want to welcome Coates, partner in the uruguayan team, friend and great player who just signed for Liverpool!"

20.10 FULL STORY HERE on Davide Santon's move to Newcastle.

20.02 The comments are still flooding in and Leicester fan Jake was not to impressed by Sven's bizarre £6.5 million bid for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic.

"As a Leicester supporter, I'd rather see us pursuing young strikers with a strong history of scoring the Championship then spending loads of cash in a desperate attempt to make a splash at the deadline. That Matty Fryatt lad seems to score a lot of goals..."

19.56 Juventus have now confirmed that Eljero Elia is in town for his medical. Right, we promise that's the last you'll hear of Elia until he actually signs. The updates on his movements have been unnervingly regular.

19.45 Better news for Newcastle is that they have signed Inter Milan defender Davide Santon. Magpies boss Alan Pardew said: "We are delighted to bring to Davide to Newcastle. He is a quality left-back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence. Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premier League very quickly."

Santon added: "I am really pleased to sign for Newcastle. The chance to play in the Premier League and in front of 50,000 fans at St. James' Park was too good to turn down. This is an ambitious club who want to move forward and I want to help them achieve that."

19.34 Saint Etienne say they have reached an agreement with Leeds over the signing of Max Gradel. That's bad news for Newcastle's hopes of signing Modibo Maiga, as Sochaux said they would only sell Maiga if they had a suitable replacement, with Gradel thought to have been in advanced talks with them.

Saint Etienne said: "Agreements in principle have been made with Steaua Bucharest and Leeds United for the arrivals of Banel Nicolita Max-Alain Gradel"

19.12 Juventus have released Czech Republic defender Zdenek Grygera, paving the way for him to move to Fulham. This one has been on the cards for the last few days and the centre-back now looks certain to join the Cottagers.

A Juventus statement said: "After four years, Zdenek Grygera's four-season spell at Juventus comes to an end. The Czech player has today consensually terminated his contract with the
club."

19.03 - DONE DEAL West Ham have signed former Fulham and Portsmouth midfielder Papa Bouba Diop on a free transfer from AEK Athens. The Sengal international's arrival surely signals the departure of Scott Parker.

Diop said: "I am very happy today. I enjoyed playing again and it is good to be here to sign. I want to help West Ham go up and I hope we can be successful. English football is the best in the world. I have come here to work hard and give 100 per cent in every game I play for West Ham United. I want to show the people I am back again."

18.52 Lyon midfielder Miralem Pjanic has refused to rule out the possibility that he might leave the club, with Roma and Lazio believed to be waiting in the wings to swoop for the Bosnia international.

Pjanic said: "The transfer market is still open and so anything can happen from now until August 31," Pjanic is quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport. "If something has not happened until now, it does not mean that it will not happen. Everything depends on any offer which Lyon receive. Nothing has been defined yet."

18.39 Blackpool's attempts to bring Nile Ranger to Bloomfield Road may not be over yet, with skysports.com reporting that the striker will reconsider leaving Newcastle having initially turned down the Tangerines.

18.22 Lyon have signed full-back Mouhamadou Dabo from Sevilla on a four-year deal. OL confirmed: "The transfer fee is one million euros, with €800,000 of possible incentives."

18.09 - BREAKING NEWS Scott Parker hands in an official transfer request, with Spurs the favourites to land him.

Parker said: "I have had a fantastic four years at West Ham United and will never forget all the support I have had from the fans and everyone associated with the club.

"The manager and board have tried hard to convince me to stay but at this stage in my career, I need to be playing in the Premier League, especially now that I am involved with England.

"I hope the fans will understand and respect my decision and I wish the club every success in their fight for promotion this season."

17.56 Swansea have bought another goalkeeper, with German Gerhard Tremmel arriving at the club after a successful trial. Tremmel has previously previously played in the Bundesliga for Hannover, Hertha Berlin and Energie Cottbus. He was a free agent having left Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg this summer.

17.49 Among all the high-profile transfers, there are some lesser known deals that also need reporting. Here is one: Gambia international Dawda Bah has joined Bundesliga side Augsburg, who were promoted to the German top flight last season.
"(We've signed) a player who can play anywhere up front so we're happy," said Augsburg official Andreas Rettig.

17.38 Sunderland have been linked with a late £10 million bid for Peter Crouch, though Tottenham are thought to want more than that. FULL STORY HERE

17.23 Another comment has come in, this time from Mikael, who questions the integrity of the words of modern footballers:

"A couple of weeks ago Elia denied he would contemplate a move to Juventus saying he didn't want to go to a club like Juventus that isn't better than Hamburg. Now he's there. Can footballer just shut their mouths and stop talking to the media?"

We fear that no is almost certainly the answer to that question.

17.20 Rangers have rejected a £6.5million bid from Leicester for striker Nikica Jelavic, the SPL club have confirmed on their official website. We kid you not - £6.5 million for Jelavic. Madness!

17.12 - TWITTER TALK Scott Parker has completed his move to Spurs, according to reports across the social network.

17.08 Agent Ernesto Bronzetti, who works for Real Madrid on their transfer deals, says that Roma have been making enquiries about Lassana Diarra. Bronzetti said: "Roma have also made an attempt for Diarra, but Real Madrid do not want him to leave him unless there is a definite offer to buy him."

16.56 Further to our entry at 13.55 which confirmed Eljero Elia was on his way to Turin, we can now confirm he has arrived there ahead of his move to Juventus from Hamburg. The Dutch winger appears to be pretty pleased too. "I am very happy," he told Sky Sport Italia, before being taken off to complete his medical.

16.51 Still a regular stream of comments coming in, though this one from Geoff brought a few sniggers of laughter from around Soccernet HQ:

"What Arsenal needs now is to appoint Arsene Wenger as general manager and get Tony Adams as team manager...Wenger can continue his wonderful youth policy and Tony could sort out the defence."

Surely things haven't got that desperate...

16.42 Sky Sports News reporting that Shaun Maloney could be on his way to Wigan from Celtic. The two clubs are apparently in talks.

Although Galliani did say almost the same thing last summer before signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho.

NEWSPAPERS Well, there is now less than 48hrs before the transfer window closes and Tuesday morning's newspapers are full of potential deals. Top of the list is Chelsea's attempt to capture Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles, with the Blues seemingly admitting defeat in their bid to sign Tottenham's Luka Modric.

The Daily Mail report that a bid of £8 million plus Yossi Benayoun for Meireles has been rebuffed by Liverpool and Andres Villas-Boas must now decide whether to return with improved terms before Wednesday night.

However, other reports suggest that Liverpool could take either striker Daniel Sturridge of Salomon Kalou instead.

The other big news on the back pages, at least on the back page of The Sun, is that Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic is a shock £25 million target for mega-rich side Anzhi Makhachkala. The Russians want to follow their £20m capture of Inter striker Samuel Eto'o by adding a top-class defender.

The Daily Mirror claim Sunderland will make a club-record £14 million bid for Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse and may also look to recruit Manchester United forward Federico Macheda on loan.

WOT? Why would we take Benayoun back? £8 million for Raul as well as Benayoun? Someone is seriously having a laugh ......

Posted by timberland on 08/30/2011

On the Man United front wouldn't it be wise for Sir Alex to consider making a final bid for Sneijder. The squad looks fantastic but they haven't been tested as of yet and in midfield they still look a bit light weight - just a tought.

Posted by zq on 08/30/2011

Arsenal fans are now like children waiting for Christmas ( transfer deadline), hoping that Santa (AW) will just present us with multiple signings.

Posted by Alex on 08/30/2011

I don't know how much credence there is to Liverpool's interest in Sturridge, but if Comolli could pull off Sturridge and £7 million (or more) for Meireles I would be overjoyed. I think Meireles is a valuable squad member, and I would hate to see him go, but if Abramovich and Villa-Boas are willing to splash the cash, you have to accept.

Posted by Anthony on 08/30/2011

No Spurs news and we have less than 48 hours left. Either Spurs have switched to radio silence as they are deep into their transfer dealings with a few surprises to unveil or we have thrown in the towel because barcelona have refused spurs enquiry about getting messi on a season long loan. That or levy is not keen to let Harry spend considerable funds on players only to leave Spurs at the end of the euro and then have to sit with a bunch of players our new manager doesn't want.

Posted by Mikael on 08/30/2011

I thought a lot of the bigger clubs were interested in Scott Dann. And he eventually goes for just £5 million? And to Blackburn of all clubs.

Posted by Abdul muneer ,Randathani, Kerala, India on 08/30/2011

Luka Modric is the best player and is must for Chelsea.

Posted by isah on 08/30/2011

David Gill revealed there were no more signings this summer despite Man Utd's first team coach saying they are expecting to land Inter Milan midfielder Sneijder before the end of the transfer market,so it is good story and bringing him will strengthen the midfied since we strart with injury threat.

Posted by JR on 08/30/2011

I still won't get excited with any of Arsenal's "transfer targets" until they're announced on the Arsenal website. Sadly, the whole summer has ruined me on speculative buys, so much so that I expect other teams to come in and get our target before they put pen to paper. Why aren't we getting both Cahill AND Mertsacker??

Posted by John Lysaght on 08/30/2011

According to Wikipedia...Mertsacker is already an Arsenal player

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_Mertesacker

Posted by Dr.Manoj on 08/30/2011

I don't know how Arsene Wenger and Arsenal fans can still complain that they have been hard done by the Nasri deal. Any moral high ground they had has been lost by how the went about signing the Korean striker Park. How is virtually stealing away a player who has completed half his medical with another club from his hotel room less morally questionable than what Wenger accused Mancini of doing when Mancini publicly stated his desire to sign Nasri?

Posted by Mark on 08/30/2011

What is the deal with Man City, not satisfied with buying all the top players money can buy, they are now determined to crush the competition by simply buying every player in Europe and fielding a 700+ squad against the remaining Premier League 11..personally i'd prefer more competition....it's almost pathetic

Posted by Michael on 08/30/2011

Why havent you mentioned the story on Goal.com about Arsenal putting in an offer for Clint Dempsey? That should add some needed character.

Posted by Mark on 08/30/2011

I see Harry's quote on Crouch that he feels "it's an area we are overloaded in"....the actual word is overburdened...get rid of the dead wood quick and bring in at least one more, preferably two more true quality strikers. Take whatever we can get for Crouch, Defoe, Pavs and Dos Santos before we suffer another dismal season with no goals from the front. And learn from Arsenal's mistake, and pay the going rate to get the quality we need....oh and sign Cahill while we're at it. Instead i'm about to be subjected to another fruitless Transfer deadline day nailbiter from mr Levy...Ah...could be worse, I could be an Arsenal fan...now that's real transfer season purgatory.

Posted by AJ on 08/30/2011

Wenger needs to man up and bring in Cahill as well as Mertersacker and throw vermaelen out as a LB. As well, why on earth did we buy a striker and loan out vela when vela is just as capable if not more than Park? Solidify the midfield with M'Vila and Martin and call it a day Wenger. He created a big enough mess as it is by not selling Nasri and Cesc in June.

Posted by Rich on 08/30/2011

Let me get this straight: Spurs turn down a reported £40m for Modric so he can help them finish 6th this season and then join Chelsea for £25m next summer?

Posted by Howard on 08/30/2011

Any news on Coates? If he's in Merseyside, what is taking so long?

Posted by Hetarth on 08/30/2011

So. At the end of the day aresnal probably are not going to get/did not not get....

Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Mario Goetze, Kaka, Gary Cahill, C.Samba, B.Schweinsteiger, R.Montolivo, etc.

And they end up looking for other people's scraps like Yossi Benayoun and Florent Malouda.

This, unfortunately, is gonna be another fail season. I predict that we'll finish 10th. HURRAY.

Posted by Mikael on 08/30/2011

A couple of weeks ago Elia denied he would contemplate a move to Juventus saying he didn't want to go to a club like Juventus that isn't better than Hamburg. Now he's there. Can footballer just shut their mouths and stop talking to the media?

Posted by AJ on 08/30/2011

If the skysports reports are true that Arsenal has dropped their interest in Cahill then Wenger and the board are truely showing their stupidity.

Posted by Mario on 08/30/2011

TO Mikael, the media are constantly following the players everywhere bombarding them with questions. They probably just answer them with some baloney to get them out of their ear!

Posted by Jay on 08/30/2011

Per Mertesacker would be a great addition to Arsenal! Yeah, he does not have any EPL experience but he has shown he can play at the top level and (personally) I have wanted Wenger to sign him for quite some years now. To everyone doubting Wenger, just keep your eyes peeled because I am sure he is going to do something to turn this season around. In Wenger we trust.

Posted by Mike on 08/30/2011

Why can't we sign both Cahill and Mertesacker?! What's wrong with having 3 top class CB (along with Vermaelen)? Look at Utd - Rio, Vidic and Jones! Why can't we just have a little bit of competition instead of looking to Djourou and Koscielny as backups?!

Posted by jdw on 08/30/2011

Are the Spurs nuts to reject 10M for Crouch? They bought him for 9M, and he's not exactly lit things up. Cash him in and flip that money for a forward who can score goals.

Center back who is only one year older than Cahill and has capped 72 more times for a much better national team and for less than what Bolton is demanding for Cahill... we probably give Wenger some credit on that one. In addition, Santos is essentially a transfer fee swap for Clichy. They're not bad buys at all. The problem is that they, along with the Cesc & Sammy deals, should have been made/resolved back by July 1.

Wouldn't mind seeing ManU toss out one last stab at Sneijder wage issues. More likely that they will wait to see how they line up with Man City in October, then use the transfer window in January if needed. Ganso is a little wishful given his Milan comments, but why blow the 35M now?

Posted by Jake on 08/30/2011

@Rich You are so right! I was thinking as a Chelsea fan sign Meireles but only for 1 or 2 years as if Spurs don't finish Top 4 and they probably won't then the price will be lowered and we can get him for 27-30M

Posted by GTHAW on 08/30/2011

Because unlike United, Arsenal apparently do NOT have an unlimited transfer budget; and, unlike United, Arsenal have other weaknesses that need addressing.

They still have not addressed their midfield which, based on the first 3 matches of the season, is a GLARING weakness.

Posted by Raf on 08/30/2011

I don't want Sneijder at United, maybe Schweinsteiger but that's just wishful thinking. Also I know most United fans would disagree with me but I think if someone offers 25mil+ for Vidic we should consider selling him.

On a side note, I hate Arsenal but I think that if they sign a guy like Mereiles(along with the rumored Mertesacker, Malouda and Santos) they will stay in the top 4 this year.

Posted by Dadric on 08/30/2011

Tony Adams is managing a side that last year finished seventh in the Azerbaijan Premier League. Get a grip. If you're going to advocate replacing Wenger, at least be rational about who you're suggesting take over.

Posted by Mark on 08/30/2011

"I hate Arsenal but I think that if they sign a guy like Mereiles(along with the rumored Mertesacker, Malouda and Santos) they will stay in the top 4 this year."

I don't see how, Man U, Man City and probably Liverpool seem a lock for he top three this year, That leaves the three London clubs scrapping for fourth...Chelsea may be favorites, but if Modric can get his head on straight then Spurs with Friedel already signed, Adebayor on loan and possibly Scott Parker and maybe even Gary Cahill before the deadline then they might even pip Chelsea and they'd have to be favored ahead of the train wreck that's occuring at the Emirates.

I'd be surpised if Arsenal finish sixth this year, and wouldn't be shocked to see them outside of Europe altogether unless they do something drastic immediately.

Posted by Jordan on 08/30/2011

Well Arsene seems to be solving our defensive problems but I haven't heard anything of a creative central mid coming in. Hopefully he'll surprise me with a silent signing.

Posted by Matthais on 08/30/2011

These Uruguayans sure do take their time. Coates has seemingly been on Merseyside for a week now without completing his move, reminding me that back in January the deal for Suarez was agreed about a full week before he finally signed as well. All is forgiven if Coates proves to be even half the player Suarez is though...

Posted by Manu on 08/30/2011

reports circulating on twitter and other sites that arsenal are considering a bid for clint dempsey... I don't know what to think about that one.

Posted by Matt on 08/30/2011

I read that Arsenal are making another go at Yann M'Vila for 25 million pounds. If they pulled off acquiring him as well as the 3 players they seem to have just gotten as well then Arsenal would finally have a bit of depth. Well hopefully enough to avoid anymore 8-2 losses again.

Posted by Steven on 08/30/2011

Ben Smith just replied to one of my tweets about hargreaves, and he said, "Hargreaves will go through tomorrow. Passed medical just discussing finer points of contract." I cannot believe it, as a spurs fan, I thought harry was gonna snag him... dang!

Posted by Andy on 08/30/2011

Any news on the possible Clint Dempsey transfer to Arsenal? I saw that Fulham is going in for Ruiz. Could that possibly be a sign?

Posted by Osikani on 01/05/2012

What is Kenny Dalglish waiting for? Sign the strikers we need NOW so they warm up in time and start playing so we wont miss Suarez too much. I hope Commoli and Henry get to see this!

Posted by Kevin on 01/05/2012

So Fergie is worried about defense? Since, the 5-0 win against Bolton in September, Man United has averaged only 2 goals a game (and really that number is inflated due to, two random 5 goal performances in the past few weeks, 1 against Fulham). Since Man United torrid start, they have lost (including Champions cup), 4 times and tied 5 times, in those games, Man U averages 1.3 goals a game.

And we are not talking about losses to EPL giants Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, we are talking about humiliating losses to Blackburn and Newcastle United, in the same week (scored a meger two goals in both those games combined).

Is Rooney a midfielder or a striker? Did Ashley Young die? Is it going to be Welbeck or Chich as the go to attacker (and now Berbatov has re-emerged in the mix)). And Man U, still does not have a good mid-fielder!

And we are talking about "stealing" Gary Cahill?

If Chelsea sign Cahill what about trying Luiz at right back. He has the pace to go forward and also keep up with the EPL's array of speedy wingers plus his clumsiness would be less visible on the wing. A loan move for Krasic would be smart considering there is virtaully no risk and only upside. By far though the most important thing for Chelsea is a Striker that has experience playing in a 4-3-3 Edison Cavani would be a massive signing for Chelsea

Personally, I think that Manchester City need a winger. A guy with pace that could stretch the defense. I've always thought Jesus Navas of Sevilla would be a great fit. Aside from that I think they are set. Loosing the Toure's will hurt (especially) Yaya but I think they can cope with what they have.

If PSG is only offering €13 mil for Keisuke Honda, where is Liverpool in this chase? They require speed in midfield and Honda's tactics are absolutely lethal. He'd be a great addition to the attack.

Sir Alex needs to buy players in this transfer window or else he's going to have the Wayne Rooney situation all over again. Maybe this time Nani's going to get involved also. Sign Gary Cahill and Alan Zagoev. Don't get talked into buying an injury prone Wesley Sneijder. Go for Eden Hazard, it's money while worth. Don't let City win the premier league.

Its all a bit quiet in the Premier League really...I guess its the time of year. Keep waiting for the other shoe to drop
